Greetings!

Hello! This newsletter is dedicated to business owners who need growth ideas, time-saving tips, and a little more balance.

Additionally you'll find updates on upcoming events, other services, and timely news. Be sure to check out the Network Spotlight section, which features a group of people that I know, like, trust and recommend. I'm guessing you can find a new vendor or alliance partner in there if you look at it thoughtfully.

If you find this newsletter useful, please forward it to a friend or colleague or share it on your favorite social network.
Now for this month's articles on building and balancing. Thanks for being a subscriber!

Are You Using Google Analytics?

Business intelligenceOkay, I'm going to get a little technical with you here. Google Analytics is a free software that you install behind the scenes on your website to get a ton of data on the visitor traffic.

A typical report will tell you:
- How many visitors have hit your site in a given period
- What percentage of visitors are new versus repeat
- Where your traffic is coming from, e.g., Google, Facebook
- What percentage is coming from referral sources like Google versus direct input, which would be your URL
- How long visitors are staying on your site
- What pages they're looking at
- What words they used to find your site
- What part of the country or world they're coming from

This is just a sampling of the data you can get from Google Analytics. It can also be combined with Google Adwords campaign to give you great data about how well your advertising efforts are working.

It's an amazing package that every business should have on their website. If you don't have it, then learn more and determine how to install it on your site. I can refer you to a resource who can install it for you if you're not sure how to get it done.

If you would like to go through your first report together after you've had it installed for 30 days, feel free to let me know and we'll set up a time to do that.

The bottom line is this: You need to be aware of what's happening with your website and you will not know unless you get this software installed and activated.

Facebook Breakthrough for Business Pages

Find me on FacebookFor those of you that have business pages set up for your business on Facebook, good things have been happening lately. Facebook is starting to recognize that we too have needs! I truly believe that this trend will continue in the foreseeable future as Facebook certainly has no issues getting personal users. And one key area of growth is business users. In order to keep expanding that group of users they need to offer more features to them.

There are two key developments that have happened fairly recently that are really good for Page owners.

1. Email notifications of Page activity. In the past we had no way of knowing when someone interacted with our Page except to log in and look. Well, now you're able to get email notifications anytime someone posts on your Wall or Comments on an existing Post. Hurray! It's really important that you be responsive when interaction with your Page happens and now you can do just that. Take advantage of it by logging on to your Page and responding to any and all interactions.

2. Ability to visit other Facebook Pages as your Page. This is a major change that helps a Page to not only network on Facebook with other Pages and further expose the business. But it also enables a business owner who wants to stay fairly private on Facebook to do so. Watch this short video to learn how to do this.

If you're not yet on Facebook for your business, then you might consider attending my Facebook for Business Workshop, Level 1, which is for beginners.

Take in a Museum Lately?

Image of foursquare check-in at California Academy of Science

The San Francisco Bay Area has so many fine museums that it's a simple matter of balancing out a busy week of work by dropping in on one over the weekend. Or better yet, during the week when they're less busy.

It's such a divine way to get your mind off of work and expand your understanding of the world. Museums are escapes just as movie theaters are in that they engross you.

I visited the Cal Academy last month for the second time and enjoyed it immensely. I believe this is the only museum in America that has a rainforest, aquarium, and planetarium all under one grass-covered roof. Amazing place, and they have a fun penguin exhibit too.

My two kids accompanied me and they had a great time over the course of the afternoon. However, when we got home my wife asked my 3-year old son what his favorite part of the museum was and he said, "Getting a space set from the gift shop!" My 6-year old daughter concurred that getting a Hex Bug was her favorite part. Oh well, at least they hung in there with me on the trek through the rain forest.

By the way, if you have a Bank of America credit or debit card you can use it for free admission to museums all over the country the first full weekend of every month. I like that from my bank.

Time Saving Tip Of The Month: Evernote

Evernote logoAll right, I'm finally starting to get what all the fuss is about on Evernote. This simple software has what it takes to be a real time-saver once you get the hang of it.

In a nutshell what this software allows you to do is capture anything you want to save (dependent on your subscription level) - audio, video, picture, pdf, word document and so forth - then have access to those items from a pc, smartphone, or iPad.

It answers the question, "Hmm, I want to remember this, where should I put it?" Moreover, Evernote is searchable so you don't have to have all kinds of complex files and folders in order to find things you've saved.

You can also send Twitter messages to Evernote to get items in to your 'trunk'. Have you figured out why they use an elephant as their symbol? Right, you will never forget anything once you start using Evernote.

You can use Evernote for free or for $45 a year to have more functionality. It's becoming steadily more useful for me, especially on my BlackBerry and you might like it too.

Thanks for reading this month's first issue. The shorter mid-month issue will be sent your way in a few weeks. If you'd like to see more content on certain topics, please tell me. I desire your feedback and input.

I want to express my deep appreciation to everyone who supports this business in one way or another. I truly could not be here without you.

Remember that true fulfillment comes when you build and balance.

Yours truly,
