The National Center for Family & Marriage Research (NCFMR), established in 2007 at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), welcomes you to News and Notes, our monthly electronic newsletter.  News and Notes aims to keep you informed about the activities of the NCFMR.  We will also announce funding and research opportunities, provide registration information for conferences and workshops, and keep you up to date on current research findings.

Awardees Announced
 
The NCFMR is pleased to announce the awardees of the African American Marriage and Family Stability, 2009: 
 
Marital Attitudes, Commitment, and Expectations: Religion and Marriage among Working-Age African Americans
  • PI: Amy M. Burdette, Department of Sociology, Mississippi State University
  • Co-I: Stacy Hoskins Haynes, Department of Sociology, Mississippi State University

Multi-partnered Fertility and the Criminal Justice System
  • PI: Eirik Evenhouse, Department of Economics, Mills College
  • Co-I: Siobhan Reilly, Department of Economics, Mills College

Pathways to Marriage among African American Men
  • PI: Tera R. Hurt, Center for Family Research West, University of Georgia

African American Men and Marriage: The influence of Attitudes and Life Events
  • PI: Armon Perry, Kent School of Social Work, University of Louisville

These projects will address key questions about marriage and family among African Americans and will provide important new knowledge for both the research community and policymakers.
 


2010 NCFR Call for ProposalsNCFR Call for Proposals
Families and Innovation
November 3-6, 2010

The 2010 National Council on Family Relations' annual conference theme is Families and Innovation.  The conference offers a unique opportunity for attendees to learn the following:
  • Innovative new ideas in research and practice
  • The most current research-based approaches to
    prevention and intervention on behalf of families
  • The most up-to-date information on family demographics, trends, and other issues affecting families in the United States and other parts of the globe
  • The scholarship of family science from a multidisciplinary perspective
  • The means and strategies for informing public policy to enhance family wellbeing
  • Pedagogical strategies and best practices for teaching in the field
 
Proposal Submission Deadline:  March 1, 2010 
 


2012 GSS Call for Proposals
Module competition provides opportunity for scholars to submit proposals to add questions to 2012 survey
 
The GSS provides nationally representative data on societal trends, including demographic, behavioral, and attitudinal questions and special interest topics.  Proposals will be accepted on the basis of scientific quality and scholarly interest.  While outside funding is unnecessary for submission, outside-funded proposals remain welcome.
