Ryan & Mickey

"Ryan enjoying his 1st visit with Mickey"
Greetings!
With the holidays quickly approaching, this is both a bitter sweet time for us and all of Ryan's family.  Ryan was diagnosed a year ago this month.  Reliving the events leading up to his diagnosis has been very emotional and difficult.  However, Ryan's bright eyes, warm heart, witty sense of humor, and new found anticipation of Santa's visit gives us much to look forward to and be thankful for.

We continue to have hope for a miracle for Ryan and all other boys affected by Duchenne.  "The most astonishing thing about miracles, is that they do happen"...and what better time of year could we hope for one than now ?  Research continues to make incredible progress and we will continue to raise money for this important cause.  We can't do it alone and, because of the generous spirit of our supporters like you, we don't have to.

We have great hope for our most recently funded project.  Ryan's Quest donated $50,000 towards a project currently underway by CombinatoRx. CombinatoRx is a bio-pharmaceutical company that focuses on developing new medicines from combinations of existing FDA-approved drugs that can work together to have a desired effect-in our case, a treatment or cure for Duchenne.

We thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for your support and wish you and your families a holiday filled with happiness, good health and great times!

Pops for a Purpose
Pops for a Purpose-
We would like to thank high school student, Chelsea Pitonyak, for reaching out to us and offering to sell lollipops at local grocery stores and businesses.  These "Pops for a Purpose" were a great hit!  Originally and creatively designed by the company All the Rave Events these lollipops raised over $1200 in one weekend!  Thank you Chelsea, Melissa Koster, Kelli Fitzgerald, Kristen Hagner, & Kelly Meara for dedicating your time & support to Ryan's Quest and our "Pops for a Purpose" fundraiser.
How "Devine"!

How "Devine"!-We continue to be amazed with the generosity, kindness and thoughtfulness of others.  Christian Devine's gesture completely warmed our hearts.  For Christian's 8th birthday, he decided to ask his friends to bring quarters to his party in lieu of birthday presents to help support our Quarters for a Cure fundraiser.  His idea helped to raise $ 170 for DMD research.  Christian, your help means so much to us and to everyone who loves Ryan!
Thank you.
Luck of the Irish
Luck of the Irish-  Seamus & the gang at Killarney's Publick House are bringing us some Irish Luck by hosting a Car Washing Fundraiser.  Pub workers dedicated their time and hard work for an afternoon of sponges and suds.  This event raised over $600 for Ryan's Quest.  Killarney's donated some extra "airgead"to present Ryan's Quest with a check for $1,000.  Thank you to everyone at Killarney's!

Gersh's Golf Giveaway
Gersh's Golf Giveaway-  The Walt & DeeDee Gerstnicker Memorial Fund Committee donated $4,000 to Ryan's Quest from their annual Golf Tournament Event.  We were honored to be chosen as this year's recipient.  Thank you to all who donated their time and dedication to this fundraiser.
Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot
Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot- We are thankful for the support of the teachers and students at Reynolds Middle School who participated in or attended the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot.  This teacher vs. student basketball game was a great and fun way to raise money for a great cause!  We would also like to thank the students and faculty at Reynolds for their past & continued support.  $1 of every ticket sold to the Halloween Dance was donated to our organization and students at this school donated some well earned dollars from lemonade stands, yard sales, & collecting donations at baseball games.  Thank you Reynolds!
Gridiron Game
Gridiron Game-Two local high school football rivals, Hamilton West & Steinert High, played in their 50th Anniversary Game on Thanksgiving Day.  Students from the Crockett Middle School organized a fundraiser that was sure to be something that Ryan's Quest would be thankful for.  These students sold Ryan's Quest merchandise, popcorn & Pops for a Purpose at this game with over 5,000 attendees.  Students also collected Quarters for a Cure; which they originally began for Ryan's Quest.  Public service announcements about the organization and Duchenne were made throughout the game.  We are extremely thankful for the continued support of the students at Crockett and their teacher, Mrs. Barbara Costantino.

Again, we wish you and your family the happiest of holidays and look forward to your continued support in 2009!

Sincerely,

Maria & David Schultz
