NewsletterApril 2010
Greetings!

My woolie hat just doesn't know if it is coming or going............what a spring this as been, lovely hot, sunny weather one minute blizzards, snow and ice the next!  Let's just hope we are in for a great summer!

Craigie's are up for another award, we are a finalist for the Food Tourism Award, so fingers crossed for the 6th May (more important things happening than general elections).
Nature weekend-this weekend!

  • Discover nature on the wildlife touch table.
  • Join in on a nature walk.
  • Take the tractor and trailer tour.
  • Learn some bird ID skills.
  • Take part in a wildlife challenge.

Complete the passport and claim a prize!

In partnership with RSPB, Hopetoun House, and Edinburgh Greenspace Trust.

Create a sizzling sausage flavour!

Craigie's butchery is offering children between the ages of 5 and 12 the chance to have their very own sausage flavour on sale in the new butchery at Craigie's, as well as the opportunity for the winner's whole family to spend time on Scotland's famous buffalo farm in Fife, interacting with the buffalo and learning all about how they are farmed.

The butchery is searching for a brand new and original sausage flavour and would like budding young cooks to come up with the new flavour. The winner will not only have his or her flavour on sale in the butchery and café but will also be able to help make the very first batch of sausages.

Cafe update

As part of our extension we had always planned to change the way we operate the cafe, we knew that there was no way we would manage with the old system in the summer.

On Good Friday we opened our new servery counter...........it was a bit stressful but we learned a lot!

The counter is now up and running, we have some signage to put up and some changes to make to the menu.
It has been great to get so much feedback from our customers with little tips on how we can improve, thank you!
It is also great to get feed back saying that you are all enjoying speaking to more of our staff.

Farm News

Things are really starting to pick up out on the farm.  The early strawberries are now in flower (should mean fruit before the end of May!) and the bees are now busy pollinating the flowers so that we get the best fruit!
We are going to be planting up a big new pick your own area of strawberries next week, this will give us fruit later in the season and some exciting new varieties.

We currently have a few pet lambs on the farm, they get fed everyday at around 10.30 and 3pm, so come along and have a shot feeding the lambs.
Shop News

As promised in my last newsletter we have lots of new goodies in the shop for you to try out.  My favorite has got to be the the Mrs Unis Indian foods, made in Edinburgh.  The Pakora's are really good!
We also have some great yoghurts from Aberdeenshire.
We are currently picking our own rhubarb and spinach every day so make sure you pop up for some freshly picked rhubarb and spinach (just do not cook them together!)
Also, just in today, the first of the Scottish tomatoes from Jim and Liz Craig, summer is just round the corner!!

John
