Craigies Farm Shop and Cafe Newsletter

Newsletter October 2009
Greetings!
When I wrote my last newsletter, at the end of August, we had just had some pretty poor weather and harvest was not going well.  What a turn around there was after that, September and October have on the whole been great months.  When our potatoes were getting harvested there was even stoor, not the usual glaur (there's a couple of great Scots words for you!)

With the building work well on the way now and Christmas approaching fast things are pretty busy behind the scenes at the moment but it is exciting times.

Christmas Orders
I do not need to tell you how fast Christmas is approaching!
This year we are taking Christmas Orders for turkeys and all the trimmings as per normal.  We guarantee to source the most local and freshest produce to ensure your Christmas meal is one to remember, for all the right reasons.
We can offer rolled turkey breasts this year as well as whole birds.
Check out our on line order form at the link below or come in and chat over your order over a coffee.
This year we will have our own butchery up and running in our shop, so if there is any special cut of meat you would like just let us know.

Extension Update
The building work has been creating a lot of interest around the shop and cafe.  The ground works and drainage are all completed and the steel frame is currently going up.  Things are really starting to take shape now!
The builders have been really great, and have caused little or no disruption.  Pop up and check out the progress, if you have any suggestions or questions please speak to any of my team or email me direct.
Top team
Craigie's have reached the finals in two categories of the prestigious Farm Retail Awards from the National Farmers' Retail & Markets Association (FARMA). We are flying the flag for Scotland in the UK's Best New Farm Shop category, and we are also be competing for the title of Best on-farm cafe.
The winners will be announced on 26 January 2010 at Farm & More, the sector's national conference.
I am delighted to have made it to the finals of these UK awards, it is all down to the hard work of our team at Craigie's and to the fantastic support from you, our customer.

Also!  Are you interested in vegetable growing and or 'social work' and have a bit of time to give to setting up a social enterprise project?  We are hoping to get our vegetable growing project off the ground this spring and we are looking for volunteers to help out!  If you are interested email.
Day at the Races
I know this is not a foodie piece but it is about supporting local.
We get a lot of requests for sponsorship or donations of some form or another.  We do try and support as many as we can, especially the charities close to our own heart.
One area that we never envisaged getting involved in was motor sport! A young lad from Dalmeny, Rory Bryant, is an up and coming star on the circuit.  Rory approached me a year ago but I was unable to help out, this year he approached me again but with a different tact which involved Craigie's providing him with lunch for a sponsors day at Knockhill in return for our logo on his car.  Of course George and I had to take this job on............we had a great day and Rory got a couple of wins as well.
If you are in the least bit interested in racing you should read Rory's race notes, they make really exciting reading.

We hope to see you up at the shop and cafe soon.

The shop is currently getting stocked up with lots of local seasonal goodies.
We will have lots on in November and December in the form of tastings, Santa will be visiting us and of course the building progress.

Regards
John
