We were originally attracted to Zoho given its contact and lead management applications because we needed a way to easily share and store information online. Over the last few months, we've been able to connect our accounts, upload our contact and media relations database and even download the mobile app.

This represents only the "tip of the iceberg" since Zoho.com offers a comprehensive suite of on-line business, productivity and collaboration applications. According to the company, these apps "help customers run their business processes, manage their information and be more productive while at the office or on the go, without having to worry about expensive or outdated hardware or software."

Kramer Vineyards has received a Best Buy distinction from Wine & Spirits on its 2010 Pinot Noir and 2010 Pinot Noir Blanc.

 

We are now working with Naked Winery of Hood River and White Pine Winery of St. Joseph, Michigan.

 

We will continue media relations projects with AntoLin Cellars of Yakima, which recently received a wonderful review from Wine Enthusiast -- Editor's Choice award for its 2010 Viognier. 

  

Stay tuned... we will soon launch a new website for Linde Vineyard Supply.  
And later this year we will launch a Portland-based distillery.

August is an exciting month at Trellis Wine Consulting.  We are both celebrating the one year anniversary and promotion of my colleague, Janel Lubanski, and undertaking the wine industry's first comprehensive sales and marketing survey. 
 
This issue of Strategic Guidance from the Ground Up, is dedicated to our research effort as it will provide insight into our industry's strengths and challenges, benchmarking data for performance measurement, and the opportunity for participants to learn key marketing management questions.  All details are below including the opportunity for participants to direct ten dollar donations to some very worthy industry organizations.

Winery Sales & Marketing Survey: Help us spread the word to winery owners and operators

If you don't reach high, you'll never get there, right?  

We have long admired Silicon Valley Bank's Annual State of the Wine Industry research. The company's report is a terrific resource in helping winery owners and operators critically examine their business strategies.


Earlier this year, when Rob McMillan's group at SVB presented it at the Oregon Wine Industry Symposium, we started thinking about the lack of supplier side sales and marketing research. This led us to our decision to "reach high" and conduct it ourselves... So we are thrilled to announce the industry's first comprehensive research on how wineries plan for and execute their sales and marketing strategies.

Trellis Wine Consulting will lead the charge in helping the wine industry understand the impact of these decisions and building a resource for benchmarking performance locally, regionally and eventually nationally. Our vision is to become the gold standard for owners and operators to assess the effectiveness of their winery sales and marketing practices.

 

Our *confidential* survey examines marketing practices ranging from media relations and advertising to social media, email marketing and ecommerce. It also explores direct-to-consumer, direct-to-trade and distributor sales channels, and delves into how wineries cultivate relationships using customer relationship management tools, programming and events.

Participants will gain complimentary access to the results report when it becomes available in late 2012, as well as the opportunity to support a great industry cause.  We will donate ten dollars per completed survey to select charitable organizations upon request -- up to a total of $3,000. At the end of the survey, participants may select one of several organizations to receive the donation on their behalf.  These include Auction of Washington Wines, Salud!, La Clinica and Idaho Wine Education Foundation.*


This opportunity to give back underscores our appreciation for the support our clients and the industry during the last five years. While we are focusing on Pacific Northwest wineries in this first year, we invite owners and operators in California and other states to participate.
