Indiana Woman Loses Legs Saving Children

MARYSVILLE, Ind. | A southern Indiana man says his wife lost parts of both her legs when the family's home collapsed onto her Friday as she was shielding their two children from a devastating tornado.
Joe Decker tells The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Ky., that his 36-year-old wife, Stephanie Decker, lost one leg above the knee and the other above the ankle. She was listed in serious condition Monday at University Hospital in Louisville.
Decker says the couple's 8-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter weren't injured when Friday's tornado tore through the town of Marysville.
He says he was at work Friday when Stephanie huddled in the basement of the couple's three-story home, covering the children with her body to shield them when the tornado pulverized their home and debris fell onto her.

 My name is Allyson League from the Baltimore Maryland area; I am a senior at Coastal Carolina University majoring in Exercise Sport Science. Currently I am an intern at Lyons Prosthetics & Orthotics where I assist mostly in the clinical aspect of the business. Throughout my time here at Lyons P&O I have learned an incredible amount of information regarding the Prosthetic and Orthotics field. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and the chance to broaden my future career choices, because without this internship I would have never considered this particular line of work. After completing my undergraduate degree, I plan on attending physical therapy school to continue my passion for helping others. |

 Q. Alex, I'm an amputee and I'm interested in extreme sports but I don't even know where to begin. Any ideas?A. Extremity Games 7 (eX7) would be a great place to start! Extremity Games Motocross is scheduled for May 26 in Millington, Michigan and Extremity Games Main Event is scheduled for June 22-23 in San Antonio, Texas. Extremity Games is an extreme sports event including competitions, instructional clinics and exhibitions for athletes with amputations and spinal cord injuries. Motocross
Extremity Games Motocross will be broken out into two divisions: AMP (i.e. amputee, etc) and PARA (paraplegic, quadriplegic, etc). Riders will race a Two-Moto format during Baja Acres' Memorial Day race weekend. Athletes will be competing for a cash purse. Main Event
Extremity Games Main Event includes competitions and instructional clinics in skateboarding, speed rock climbing, wakeboarding, sit-boarding, kayaking and cross country mountain biking. Exhibitions include motocross and mixed martial arts. A full-day of instructional clinics and Athlete Sign-in are set for Friday, June 22 from 9 am - 3 pm at the Texas Ski Ranch in New Braunfels, Texas, which will be followed by the Athlete Sign-in and Welcome Reception at the host hotel from 6-9 pm. eX7 Main Event Competitions run on Saturday, June 23 from 8 am - 5 pm. Extremity Games concludes Saturday evening with an award ceremony and BBQ at Texas Ski Ranch. All are welcome to join the BBQ awards celebration. Tickets are available on-line or at the door. Elite and Novice competitions are available at eX7 Main Event. Elite competition athletes will compete for cash prizes, while Novice competition athletes will compete for prizes.
