The Dangerous Prince
Jesus warned us through John's Gospel, " ... the prince of this world is coming ..." (John 14:30) He tells us the enemy roams and prowls, and seeks to kill, steal, and destroy. Daniel illustrates to us (chapter 10) that a "prince" delayed an answer to prayer for 21 days. And yet we (me included) daily forget, ignore, and disbelieve, that the enemy's goal is to disrupt our lives, and do anything possible to prevent us from having a relationship with our Father, and especially spreading the gospel.
And there is no neutral ground. We're either up or down, left or right, good or bad. There is not real middle, except for the reference to the "lukewarm" believers at Laodicea mentioned in Revelation (3:15-16); and then Jesus said, "I am about to spit you out of my mouth." We must daily recognize that we have an enemy. That's not to be fearful like a young child afraid of the dark. It's a be aware like a sign in a yard warning of a mean dog. And be conscious of how you give him access to your life.
Over the next couple days I'll share some thoughts from some of my favorite resources on the topic, but today, it's heads up. There's a mean dog out there who doesn't like your desire to walk with Jesus. And actually, he fears what you are becoming. Remember that. Through Christ, you have the power, not him. Don't let him tempt you into thinking otherwise.Greg Tutwiler, CCLC, BCPC
