Alive And Vibrant
I was reminded of the quote by Howard Thurman, "Don't ask yourself what the world needs, ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who are alive." Have you thought about that recently? What makes you come alive? What is it that sparks your heart? What activity is it that you just cannot wait to do? Could it be within that awakening that God wants to guide you into the true desires of your heart?
David wrote, "Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart." (Psalm 37:4) Fr. John Powell wrote, "Fully alive people are those who are using all of their human faculties, powers and talents. They are using them to the full. These individuals are fully functioning in their external and internal senses. They are comfortable with, and open to the full experience and expression of all human emotions. Such people are vibrantly alive in mind, heart, and will." Doesn't that kind of life sound exciting? It is real and available to all of us. The key is moving in that direction; one step, then another. Make a plan and set some goals. Sketch out the steps it will take to get there, then go. Take on the challenges as they come. The only real failure is in choosing not to act.Greg Tutwiler, CCLC, BCPC
