The Predictable Life
During a journaling time last week, I was talking to
God about some things on my "to do" list that are a bit of a challenge for me
personality wise. Most of the time was spent with me "telling" God how I would
like for them to go, and not much time asking Him how He planned for them to go.
As I was about to conclude my musings, Father posed this question; "How much
differently would you live your life if fear wasn't an obstacle?" Wow! There
wasn't a whole lot of "telling" left in me after that. I just sat there. I could
sense my "yeah buts" welling up, like God really doesn't understand? What do you
do with that? Really. Fear does not originate from God. (At least the kind I
know He was referring to.) So I have a choice. I was reminded of the verse
in Proverbs (3:26), "For the Lord will be your confidence ..." Easier said than
done I guess. But I began a list of the things that I would like to do differently. Then
I heard, "When will you start living that way?"
Living that way, as Lee Strobel
puts it, is "the difference between a numb life of predictability and an
exhilarating series of divine coincidences." I know for me, I'm tired of
predictability. How about you? May we all choose today to live differently, and
leave behind the life of numb predictability. I pray we'll each make that
choice.Greg Tutwiler, CCLC, BCPC
