Wasting Energy
Passing through the book store the other evening, I picked up a copy of Dr. Wayne Dyer's book, There's a Spiritual Answer For Everything. Leafing through, I landed on this quote. "Stop giving energy to the things you don't believe in." Man! There are so many applications there. I recalled an encounter with someone not long ago that I find very difficult to be around. The experience frequently leaves me frustrated to say the least. In part, because our philosophical points of view rarely line up. We don't believe the same way. But why do I "wear" the encounter long after it's over? I'm giving it way too much life energy. I'm actually giving that person power over me. Don't we do that with so many things in our lives? I cannot control that person, or the way they choose to live. But I can control how I react, and how much energy I expend on the circumstance. Easier said than done, I know. But think about that for a moment. Where in your life are you giving up your power? Where are you giving energy to things you don't even believe in? Make a list. Then practice releasing them. If something has a grip on you, only you have the power to release it. And where are you going to send it? Let Jesus have it. "Cast your cares on the Lord," David wrote, "and He will sustain you."
