A Path For My Feet (PART II)
February 26th, 2010
By Greg Tutwiler, CCLC, BCPC
This is the second part of yesterday's article, "Winds Of Change"

Do we really believe that God is in charge? Daniel reminds us, "He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars." (Daniel 2:20-22) How easily we are conned into believing we are directing the course of our world. Jeremiah prayed, "I know, Lord, that our lives are not our own.  We are not able to plan our own course." (Jeremiah 10:23) The book of Judges tells us what happened to Israel when they drifted from the path of their forefathers; "Israel did not listen to the judges, but prostituted themselves by worshiping other gods. How quickly they turned away from the path of their ancestors, who had walked in obedience to the Lord's commands." (Judges 2:16-18)

Somehow we've got to get our heads above the rushing waters around us, and re-center, and re-ground our faith. David pleaded, "Put your hope in the Lord. Travel steadily along his path. He will honor you by giving you the land. You will see the wicked destroyed." (Psalm 37:35-35) And when we do, David reminds us what God will do for us; "He made a dry path through the Red Sea, and his people went across on foot. There we rejoiced in him." (Psalm 66:6)

Have you been looking for a "dry path" lately through your "red sea"? There is a way of life that is paced differently than the one we are invited into on a daily basis. But we have to uncover it. And we have to choose it. We have to dig it out from under the snow of the world that has been piled on us. While we can't turn back the clock to the good 'ol days, we can learn from the faith of those who came before us. And we can glean from the wisdom they left us. Samuel said, "You have made a wide path for my feet to keep them from slipping." (2 Samuel 22:37)

You'll find your path in Jesus, not in the world. It's there, and it's secure. If you're struggling to see it, reach out to someone you trust for the hand of faith. God will direct your steps, and lead you along the path. And if you're walking in the light of the path, and notice others struggling, reach out. Your hand might just be the one they've been praying for.
