No Outer Props
Daily Life Quote: "The Innermost strands are the strongest. I need no outer props to hold up my faith." E. Stanley Jones
Daily Life Verse: "A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." (Ecclesiastes 4:12)
Daily Life Thought: When life is at its toughest, can you have the kind of faith that needs nothing to prop it up? Can I? Stanley Jones, the great 20th century theologian, made that statement at age eighty. Understandable I would suppose for someone at that stage of life. However Jones was bed-ridden with a stroke that had impaired his speech and paralyzed his writing hand; the two things he relied on. I wonder, is the core of my faith strong enough to endure life at that level? One thing I do know, without the strength derived from the power of the Holy Spirit; without the one-on-one relationship that I cultivate as honestly and sincerely as I can with Jesus, I won't make it through those moments. As much as I'd like to tell you that you can avoid tragedy and pain, I can't. It comes with the territory. And while these moments bend us to the very brink, if we're walking with God, they won't break us. That much we've been promised.
Daily Life Discovery: Today, how would your faith hold up to one of life's tougher moments?
