Internal Vigilance

Daily Life Quote:
"Freedom is not free; Internal vigilance is the cost of freedom." (A guest on the Glenn Beck show)

Daily Life Verse:
"Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."
(Proverbs 4:23)

Daily Life Thought:
We all would say we live in a free country. Although that freedom is getting challenged recently, we still live in an incredible place. We like to fuss a lot about who's taking what away from us. But we really still don't have it that bad. Have you seen the news coming out of third world countries lately; or China, or Russia, or pick one. But there is a freedom not yet known by many. It's a freedom that Jesus bought for us. It's a freedom from duty and performance, from shame and guilt, and from the penalty for the sin in our lives. That freedom cost God dearly. And we get to receive that freedom at no cost to us personally. But, it takes something courageous on our part in order to line ourselves up with that freedom. We have to decide that it's worth it. We have to choose to step into the unknown adventure of a personal, daily relationship with Jesus and take on the life of "internal vigilance." The forces of this world are after your heart. Kill that, and they can crush your life. The wellspring of life flows from your heart, and the freedom Jesus arranged for you is right there, in front of you, waiting for you to step into it. Jesus said, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

Daily Life Discovery:
Have you really tasted the freedom Jesus offers? If not, consider what might be standing in the way. How can you move past those obstacles?
