An American Idle
Daily Life Quote: "Walking is a fundamental category of biblical and Christian existence: apart from walking, there is no certainty, no grasping of the truth, no standing fast." Hans Urs von Balthasar
Daily Life Verse: "As they were walking along the road, a man said to Him, 'I will follow you wherever you go." (Luke 9:57)
Daily Life Thought: Jesus' life was anything but stagnant. He was constantly on the move. And His disciples were always following along, asking questions, and seeking to understand His message. One of His final commands was "go." His gift to us was so much more than a ticket into Heaven. There's so much to this life here on earth He wants for us to experience, and explore, and learn. We settle in to life. I guess that's not all bad, if you're happy. But most aren't. It's a status quo syndrome. We get numbed out to the possibilities God has laid out before us. Satan has tempted us into a life of "American Idle." We get introduced to Jesus, but then the seeds of life get crowded out, and our soul withers. You have to stay spiritually active to stave off the idle doldrums. To reach any destination requires movement. To "follow" Christ requires that we walk along with Him.
Daily Life Discovery: Do you feel like you have a healthy "walk" with Christ, or do you feel more like an "American Idle"?
