Modern man, who has rejected this, has no clue as to who he is, and becasue of this he can find no real value for himself or for other men ..." Francis Schaeffer

A Quieted Soul

Daily Life Quote:
"Seldom in our busy world of television, traffic noise, and even white noise in our offices do we experience the phenomenon of complete and utter silence." The Knowing Jesus Study Bible

Daily Life Verse:
"But I have stilled and quieted my soul." (Psalm 131:2
)

Daily Life Thought:
Quiet is probably one of the most rapidly dwindling resources we have today. The teen generation is probably the first generation to actually despise quietness. The whole social networking phenomenon has brutalized the concept of quiet. God said, "Be still, and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10) We tend to keep turning up the noise to drown out the noise. We don't like what we hear our minds telling us. And instead of getting quiet before the Lord and quieting our soul long enough for Him to speak, we amp up the busy meter and fill our worlds with texting, IMs, tweets, iPods, posts, surfing, and gaming. (If your's wasn't on the list, you still know what I mean.) Have you ever tried detoxing from this junk? The world has whole pharmaceutical companies devoted to artificial rest. If you're resonating with this, read Psalm 131, and find some space where you can be alone before God. The stillness can be painful, but it's crucial if we're ever going to truly understand what Jesus meant when He said "follow me."

Daily Life Question:
What does "quiet" look like for you? Do you have trouble sitting in complete silence? Consider what it is you don't like about that experience? What is keeping you from going there? What draws you out of it?
