WRAF has a problem with our twenty-five year old broadcast antenna.
If you are still
able to tune in to WRAF and have been listening recently you know that
we have been operating at significantly reduced power because of damage
to the 90.9 FM antenna. If you have not been able to pick us up or have
noticed a deterioration in the quality of our signal - now you know why.
The decision
before us is; do we attempt to repair the antenna or purchase a brand
new one? The estimate to repair it is $20,000-$25,000. However, we have
been informed that there is no guarantee that the repair will solve all
of our problems. The antenna is near the end of, if not past, its life
expectancy. The manufacturer has made it clear that we could have the
same problems six months, one year, or two years down the road.
The estimated
cost of a new antenna is $70,000-$80,000. With a new antenna we will
have a stronger, clearer signal and be able to reach back into areas
that have not received us well in quite some time.
After praying
about what to do, meeting with our staff and the administration of
Toccoa Falls College, the decision has been made to raise funds to
purchase a brand new antenna. Today we are holding an "on-air" fundraiser and want to thank everyone who has and will give towards this purchase.
Please donate
here with a debit/credit card. If you prefer to mail a check make it payable to "WRAF"
write "Antenna" in the memo section.
