A BIG thanks to Mike Shelley of Praise in the Morning, for suggesting that I revisit the issue of DTV or Digital Television.

What Is Digital Television?

According to
http://www.dtv.gov, Digital Television (DTV) is an advanced broadcasting technology that will
transform your television viewing experience. DTV enables broadcasters to offer television with better
picture and sound quality. It can also offer multiple programming choices, called
multicasting, and interactive capabilities.

What are some other benefits to converting
to DTV?

Converting to DTV also will free up parts of the scarce and valuable broadcast spectrum. Those portions of the spectrum can then be
used for other important services, such as public and safety services (police and fire departments, emergency rescue), and
advanced wireless services.

When will the change over happen?

On February 17, 2009.

What Do I need to do to be ready for the
change over?

Purchase an HDTV, Prices range from $250-$2,500, depending on screen
resolution and size, or purchase an analog-to-DTV converter set top box.
Prices averages around $60.

According to
www.dtv2009.gov, The Federal Government is offering U.S. households up to two $40 coupons to help with the cost of certified TV converter boxes. A converter
box is a one-time purchase that will allow your analog TV to continue to work.
According to Praise in the morning Host, Mike Shelley, the coupon is in the form of a debit card which is valid for 90 days.

Can I still use my analog TV after Feb 17, 2009?

Yes, IF you have Cable or Satellite TV service. You can still use analog TV's to watch DVD or play Video Games as well. For more information go to http://www.dtv.gov

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email me at wraf.techspot@gmail.com or write me here at the station.
