Tech Spot
Kevin "Flash"Klump
Welcome to Tech spot. There are two
purposes for this column; one is to help clarify some of today's technological
terms, such as Wi-Fi and Blogging. The other purpose is to give advice on what
to look for when buying some of the new fangled gadgets.
In this edition, I am going to talk about
the Internet and what there is to do on it, BESIDES the online
listening opportunities from myfavoritestation.net, but that's the main thing
for being online right? I'm just kidding, there are a lot of things to do
besides listen to online radio, e-mail and research or even online
shopping. You can do most anything online, but let's talk about how safe it is.
If you look at the technological advances throughout the course of history, you
will find one or more examples of people using said technology for some sort of
deviant purpose, as in the case of Photography, Videography, the Internet and the introduction of pornography. Does this make these technologies bad? No, the
technologies themselves are just mediums to deliver this stuff. The problem is with the people behind the cameras and/or keyboards that give these technologies a not
so good reputation. So what do you do, stop using them all together? In some
cases and depending on the individual I would say yes. There are ways to be
able to use the Internet and have FUN without having to sift through the
garbage out there.
Filtering Software
Most vendors will define the term, FILTERING Software, as software that blocks,
filters, or monitors Internet use. There are many filtering programs,
so I will give you the top five, in no particular order, and their web sites
for you to research.
Net Nanny www.NetNanny.com
Cyber sitter www.cybersitter.com
Cyber patrol www.cyberpatrol.com
Maxprotect www.max.com
Filterpak www.centipedenetworks.com
NetMop www.NetMop.com
Common Sense
A lot to being safe on the Internet is common sense. Use search engines,
like Google and yahoo to look up the subject and see what comes up. Most
importantly, pray before you go online for God's wisdom as you surf the net. In
my next post, we will look briefly at some of the fun stuff you can do on the
net.
For Tech Spot this is Kevin "Flash" Klump.

In Loving Memory of Maria Chapman
At approximately 5 PM on the afternoon of Wednesday, May
21st, Maria Sue Chapman, 5 years old and the youngest daughter to Steven and
Mary Beth Chapman, was struck in the driveway of the Chapman home in Franklin,
TN. Maria was rushed to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville, transported
by LifeFlight, but died of her injuries there. Maria is one of the close knit
family's six children and one of their three adopted daughters.
The Chapman family is grateful for the incredible outpouring
of love and support at this difficult time.
Meet Maria and
express your condolences. If you wish, you may also send condolences by mail
to:
PO Box 150156 Nashville, TN 37215
More than five years ago Chapman and his wife MaryBeth
founded The Shaohannah's Hope Ministry after bringing their first adopted
daughter, Shaohannah, home from China. The ministry's goal is to help families
reduce the financial barrier of adoption, and has provided grants to over 1,700
families wishing to adopt orphans from around the world.
Please join with the WRAF team and keep the entire Chapman
family in prayer during this difficult time. We too will be praying and asking
God to extend His healing hand to the Chapman family. May He keep them in the
peace that passes all understanding, and restore them in His mercy.

Epicenter
Modern Israel became a nation on
May 14, 1948. 60 years later the eyes of the world are focused on the Middle
East, the epicenter of the dramatic events that are shaping our world and
shaking our future. Listen to Joel Rosenberg, Skip Heitzig, Chuck Smith, and
Peter Goss answer these questions:
*Why does the Iranian president want to
wipe Israel off the map? *Will there be another Lebanon war and will Syria
join in? *Why is Russia arming Iran? *Does a 2,500 year old prophecy
really foretell the rise of a Russian-Iranian alliance against *Israel in "the
last days"? *How can Christians bless Israel and her neighbors at this moment
in history?

Keeping
You Safe in the Sun
 It was
once thought that the majority of lifetime sun exposure was received before the
age of 18. But studies have shown that this is not the case. Sun damage
is spread
out over the course of a lifetime. With
the start of summer, WRAF and The Skin Cancer Foundation reminds you that it's
never too late to protect yourself
from the sun. Use an SPF 15 every day, seek the
shade and do not burn. For more tips, visit skincancer.org

Forgive Like Jesus

Luke
23:33-36
Think:
1. What was the
extent and limits on Jesus forgiveness? Do you forgive like Jesus?
2. What did we do to
deserve what Jesus did for us? Why did He do it?
3. How can we follow
Christ's example with our lives?
Live:
On the cross we see
how undeserved grace really is, because that night even as the most evil among
them were nailing Jesus to the cross he said, "Father forgive them for they know not what they are doing." The more that I meditate on Jesus the more I see that
no one is beyond redemption. We need to lay our life down at the foot of the
cross as we pick up our cross and follow him.
There is a story of
a Christian lady in Iraq whose son and husband
were killed by a police officer. In court, as the judge considered the sentence
of the police officer, that courageous woman spoke boldly: "He took my family,
everything I loved away from me, and I still have a lot of love to give... So I
would like for him to come to the ghetto twice a month, and spend a day with me
so I can be a mother to him... so that I can embrace him, and he can know my
forgiveness is real." (From Shane
Claiborne's emails from Iraq http://www.thesimpleway.org/macro/shane_iraq7.html)
When I heard that
story, it reminded me of Jesus on the cross. My sin just as much killed Jesus
as those police officers killed that lady's husband and son. It is this crazy
undeserved love and grace that saved me. Jesus forgave me, that is true grace,
that while we where yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is sometimes fun,
sometimes thrilling. It's as violent as you'd expect it to be. It has about as
much profanity as you'd assume. This is the quintessential popcorn flick held
under heat lamps and topped with tasty-but-artery-clogging butter-something
Indy'd better start cutting back on, considering his age and all. Read the full
