Welcome to Tech spot. There are two purposes for this column;one is to help clarify in layman's terms some of today's technological terms, such as Wi-Fi and Blogging. The other purpose is to give advice on what to look for when buying some of these new fangled gadgets. Now let's getdown to it.
In my last post we discussed, "What is WIFI?" This
time we tackle the issue of streaming.
What does it mean to
stream audio or Video?
Picture
filling up a glass of water from a faucet, the water comes out of the
spout in a focused stream and fills the glass. The same principle
applies to Streaming audio and video on the internet, take for instance
the site YouTube. YouTube is a site where people can
upload video from various sources so others can view them online. What
happens, is that when a person clicks on a video to view, The site will
play the video clip on the user's computer without needing to be
downloaded first. This allows the user to view video and listen to
audio without filling up the hard drive.
This
also allows users to be able to listen to radio stations in work
situations where radio signals are hard to pick up. It also allows the
radio station have a bigger scope of impact.
