Indy Express Bus launches new marketing campaign

In an effort to increase ridership, CIRTA and Miller Trailways have launched a marketing campaign to educate downtown-bound commuters from Fishers and Carmel about Indy Express Bus. You may have already noticed the billboards and colorfully wrapped buses telling commuters to "Rule Your Rush Hour" and enjoy an extra hour per day to read, nap, work or surf the web using free Wi-Fi. To fund this effort, CIRTA received a federal Congestion Mitigation Air Quality, or CMAQ, grant. Indy Express Bus operations are not eligible for subsidization by CMAQ, though CIRTA has been permitted to use the funds for public outreach. Follow Indy Express Bus on Twitter at @IndyExpressBus and join us on Facebook at facebook.com/IndyExpressBus.

Resolutions of support for referendum-enabling legislation

The 2012 session of the Indiana General Assembly is just around the corner. To date, 46 organizations have passed resolutions of support for legislation that would allow communities to hold referendums on raising local revenue for transit. These organizations include transportation providers, economic development organizations, local government entities, nonprofits serving people with disabilities, professional development organizations, and many more. You can help by approaching your group - be it a neighborhood association, business, service club or something else - about passing a resolution. Click here to download a template resolution in Microsoft Word format. Email Christy Campoll at [email protected] for information about sending in signed resolutions.

IndyGo offers free travel training for service providers

People unfamiliar with public transportation often feel intimidated by the experience. Some are unsure of how to get on and off the bus, while others are afraid of ending up on the wrong bus altogether. Some may even find reading a route map confusing. IndyGo's travel training program helps remove that anxiety by teaching service providers how to better assist their clients with transportation needs.

On November 18, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., IndyGo will host a travel training workshop targeting international services. Carlos May, the Director of the Mayor's Office of Latino Affairs, will provide opening remarks at this training. This workshop will include an overview of the bus system, trip-planning exercises, specific how-to-ride information and bike and bus training. This reservation-based session, which is limited to 55 participants, is free to staff and volunteers of Indianapolis-area service providers.  IndyGo will host this workshop at the IndyGo Administration Offices, located at 1501 West Washington Street. The facility is accessible via Route 8 and free parking is available. Those interested in participating should RSVP to Bryan Luellen at 317.614.9284 or [email protected].
