Percy's Blog
Gateway's Whole Brain I left the Cabrillo Theater last night exuberant and energized from Dr. Siegel's talk about parenting the whole-brain child. For those of you who have read Dr. Siegel's book The Whole-Bran Child: 12 Revolutionary Strategies to Nurture Your Child's Developing Mind, Survive Everyday Parenting Struggles, and Help Your Family Thrive or were at the talk, we learned that by integrating the parts of our brain, and our bodies, we can help our children to become resilient, empathetic, compassionate adults. GPA Spring International Day Assembly - March 22, 2012 at Noon
At Gateway School, our students study individuals from various backgrounds and the contributions they have made to the Santa Cruz community, our state and our county. Students learn that our society is made stronger by their influences and that our community's diversity is not a value to espouse, but part of the foundation of our nation, and inexorably tied to our rich past and our shared future.
This year's Spring International Day assembly will recognize and celebrate the different cultures and traditions that make our community strong. One of the tenets of the school's mission is to develop a commitment to social responsibility, and we would like to use this celebration to foster the link between our school community and the world around them.
The assembly on the 22nd is comprised of:
Cultural Presentation by a GWS Parent: Life Lab food contribution: Parent Potluck Lunch; & Cultural Booths & Activities From Around the World. We still need volunteers for the following areas...
~Musicians and talent representing cultures from around the world. (Contact Naomi: naomi.devi@gmail.com)~Assistance with set-up and clean-up for the day of the event. (Contact Andrea: drehultzen@gmail.com) Thank you in advance! Naomi Woldemar, Shiva Hurvitz, and Andrea Hultzen. |

Financial Aid 2012-13
Financial Aid for the 2012-2013 School Year: Financial Aid application season is now open. On the Tuition and Financial Aid page of our website ( www.gatewaysc.org), you will find information that explains the application process. Instead of using the SSS system to process financial aid applications, as we have for the last several years, we are now using the FAST (Financial Aid for School Tuition) system. We believe this will provide an easier and less time-consuming application process for parents. Our website page has a link to the FAST application system.
In order to apply for aid, you must file an online application through FAST and you must mail to FAST a copy of your complete 2011 tax returns. We recommend that parents start preparing now to get their 2011 taxes done as early as possible during the month of February 2012. The deadline for completing your FAST application is February 15th and the deadline (postmark date) for mailing your tax return to FAST is February 24th. As long as you meet these deadlines, your application will be considered for the first round of financial aid awards (the round in which the bulk of our financial aid budget is awarded). If you are divorced, separated or never married, please be aware that each parent must file a separate FAST application and each parent must submit a copy of his or her complete 2011 tax returns to FAST. Please contact Rima in the Business Office at x 308 if you have any questions.
