"Let Them Eat...Last"
The Lower School staff has decided to try out our "play first, eat later" protocol with K - 5 students during lunch, rather than at break. We agreed that the time between when students leave home and when they would sit for snack was too long (in some cases over 3 hours). This is especially true for younger students and those who do not eat a healthy breakfast. Therefore, students in grades K - 5 will use the following schedule at lunch beginning on Monday, October 25th:
K, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd
12:00-12:30 students will play; 12:30-12:45 students will eat.
4th & 5th
12:15-12:45 students will play; 12:45-1:00 students will eat.
We have made special provisions for students to wash their hands prior to eating; for children who may need more than 15 minutes to finish their meals without rushing; and for those who participate in the Garden or Library Clubs.
The staff is very excited to pilot this program based on data that demonstrates when recess is scheduled before lunch - rather than after lunch - students consume significantly more food and nutrients, plate waste decreases, and students are more focused and attentive in classes that follow lunch. We look forward to hearing your feedback about the change.

"Halloween is for fun...not guns" - Costume Guidelines
Please remember that our students are prohibited from bringing weapons to school as part of their costumes for our Halloween celebration on Friday, October 29th. We want to ensure that we are sending the proper message to our younger students that weapons (even toy weapons) can be dangerous and are not permitted on campus. Please help us enforce this rule by leaving weapons at home. A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle is just as cute when s/he is not brandishing a sword. The K-1 parade is at 11:15 and the 2nd-8th grade parade is at 1:15 on 10/29.
