Dear Parents,

Welcome back!!!

I begin each year with the same anxiety, hope, fear, and promise as that of a kindergartener approaching the doors of the school on his first day.   I am eager to see the students' smiling faces in the classrooms, in the Life Lab, on the athletic fields, and singing joyfully in the West Cliff Room.  I look forward to spending the first precious weeks in the fall talking with our students, hearing about their interests, and discovering how Gateway School can support their educational aspirations and their developmental needs.

Each new year provides our faculty and staff with a fresh opportunity to nourish our students' minds, their sense of self, and their love of learning.  We look forward to collaborating with our parents to build upon the school's culture of compassion and its forty year history of producing ethical, reasoned, and engaged learners.  Here's hoping that Gateway's fortieth year is our best year ever.

Warm regards,

Percy

What Is the GPA and Why Do They Need Me?

All Gateway parents are members of the Gateway Parent Association, or GPA.  Just as a tripod provides a strong and stable platform on uneven terrain, the foundation of our school and its success in engaging the uneven terrain of the future are dependent on three critical groups of individuals: students, faculty & administration, and our parents.

The GPA was founded on the principle that parent engagement and talent are the hallmark of a vibrant independent school community. The GPA supports family involvement with Gateway and is a communications channel to ensure that parents, the Board of Trustees, faculty, and staff work synergistically towards achieving our shared vision of creating a school and school community that can best benefit our children.

Our children are in for a very special experience at Gateway.  The GPA, however, strongly believes that our children should not have all the fun.  We also exist to help YOU have a fulfilling and rewarding experience while your children attend Gateway.  To this end, the GPA is committed to affording our parents opportunities to be engaged in, and derive value from, their children's activities at Gateway.  The Volunteer Sign-Up Form you received with your 2010-2011 school packet lists these opportunities.  Please keep in mind, however, the very last two options on the form: the GPA is always open to new ideas, suggestions, and integration of our parents' special skills and talents into our plans for the year.

In a nutshell, the GPA is here to help you better know your school, enjoy the company of other Gateway families, and to facilitate having you take part in your child's Gateway experience.  Please take advantage of us.

It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to our 2010-2011 GPA Executive Committee:

Community Events Coordinator:  Naomi Bendiner-Woldemar

Thank you and best regards as we start this new school year together!
