SCHOOL LIFE

Thank you to all who participated at Campus Improvement Day on Monday!

GPA Welcome Back Coffee - A huge thank you to the Gateway Parent Association (GPA) for hosting a fabulous welcome back coffee.  The food was delicious.  What a fun way to start the year!  Thank you!

School Assembly - The whole school gathered for the Welcome Back Assembly this morning in which Percy introduced new faculty. All the teachers introduced themselves and sang a song to the children. The Student Council Co-Presidents welcomed new students to our community and everyone sang the song Circle of Peace three times. For those parents who were not able to join us, here are the words that started us out on our new school year:

We create a circle of peace,
a circle of peace
all around this land.

Heart to heart,
home to home
in a circle of peace we stand.

A Taste of the Harvest - UCSC Life Lab's Annual Benefit and Auction and 30th Anniversary - September 12th, 4 - 7pm. Yes, we all know the fantastic Life Lab program that educates our children at Gateway School. The non profit organization housed at UCSC called the Life Lab Science Program helped bring our Life Lab Garden Science Program to Gateway.  This organization has been designated by Gateway School to receive a portion of proceeds from Gateway's February 2010 Auction event. This organization is dedicated to designing school garden curricula and creating gardens in public and independent schools all across the nation. They accomplish this by educating teachers and youth in science, nutrition and other subject matter using the garden as an outdoor living laboratory.  The UCSC Life Lab Garden Classroom is a model school garden located on the 25 acre organic farm at UCSC.  Their annual benefit will be held at this beautiful garden location with magnificent views of the Monterey Bay and music by the Rolling Cultivators. This event will feature amazing hors d'oeuvres created by Chef Jon Dickenson of Café Cruz, wines donated by Cooper-Garrod Winery and beer from Santa Cruz Brewery.  Produce for the event has been donated by Santa Cruz County farms, and businesses in the county have donated many exciting items for the silent auction.  Please go to www.lifelab.org/dinner.php for more information.  To order tickets you can find the UCSC Life Lab invitations in a basket in the Gateway lobby or contact Gateway parent Mika Jarnagin-Knox at mika@cruzio.com
