From Stuck To Stellar!
Action Planning for Life and Career
...by Jane Sanders

Are you craving a balanced life with more fun and fulfillment? Do you often feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unable to pursue your true dreams and desires? Are you struggling with a life-changing transition...divorce, job change, child leaving home, etc? Take control of your life and plan for the outcomes you want to achieve -don't wait for life to plan your future for you!

Balance is No Longer a Women's Issue
In increasing numbers; both men and women are looking for more balance in their lives. Balance in this context does not mean equal parts work and leisure - that kind of balance doesn't exist. What we all truly desire is fulfillment, contentment, freedom of choice, and fun.

The benefits of achieving this balance reach far beyond the personal implications, as you know. Thanks to the women's movement, and subsequent entry of Generation Y into the workplace, employers are recognizing through experience that fulfilled and happy employees are the most productive employees. They stay longer and contribute more to their company's financial success. And their happiness and high morale are contagious, adding to the corporate benefits indirectly as well.

Several years ago with great amounts of research and work, I developed a workshop called From Stuck to Stellar, Action Planning for Life & Career to help people achieve the balance and fulfillment we all need and crave.

The corresponding Workbook I wrote to accompany this workshop includes 20 pages of activities and exercises designed to help you discover what you really want and where you want to go in the key life areas of career, family/relationships, health/leisure, finances, spirituality, and service; and then specifically how you will get there.

Is developing your life plan easy? No. Digging deep to uncover your true priorities, strengths, talents, dreams and fears is not a cakewalk. But it can be enormously fulfilling and life-changing!

The Benefits
Here are a few of the benefits: increased control over your life and schedule; clearer focus and direction for easier, more effective choices and decisions; more peace of mind, energy and motivation; better performance and morale at work; higher confidence for handling life's unexpected curves and transitions; increased clarity about what you really want to accomplish in your life; and, bottom line, specific steps to help you achieve your newly clarified goals and dreams.

GenderSmart Tip
Living Your Joy

Until you've personally experienced the results of bringing your passions into your life with intention, it is hard to grasp how powerful and life-changing those results can be. Our passions - those activities and pursuits that bring us deep joy and fulfillment - put us in touch with our authenticity, with the person we were meant to be. They fuel our confidence and bring a sense of balance and control into our lives. Our passions teach us, steady us, and provide meaning for us.

I love my work helping organizations retain and advance women, and speaking at conferences and other events, and I'm proud of the difference I make. But I wasn't completely fulfilled until I got involved with horses. The funny thing is that I didn't even know I wasn't completely fulfilled! And I hear this same discovery from participants in my workshops. Taking care of my horses, trail riding, and helping my friends with their horses has literally changed me. This is a long story, but suffice to say that horses are my escape, my meditation, and my stress-relief. Horses have taught me self-awareness, patience, leadership, confidence, and a whole new way of communicating. They have changed my life!

I started small, just taking lessons when I could. Then I stumbled across (by the way, once you identify your passions or dreams and clarify your intentions, there is no "stumbling across" - doors open, you notice things you wouldn't have previously, and opportunities arise) a ranch that needed volunteers and I jumped at the opportunity. I worked there every weekend for eight years and learned an enormous deal about horses and riding. And about me. I took all kinds of classes and clinics, and still do. For over three years now I have owned a horse named Beau whom I love madly and can't imagine being without.

You don't have to make your passion your career. Just dipping your toe in, to confirm you are headed in the right direction, can start the ball rolling to major positive change in your life!
