THE ROAD TO RECOVERY-MARCH 2011 EARTHQUAKE
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to everyone who has been affected by the tragic Tohoku earthquake, and express our appreciation for the warm wishes we have received from our guests worldwide. It has been over six weeks since Japan's largest recorded earthquake struck approximately 600 km to the south of Furano offshore of the Tohoku region, and not a day goes by that we do not hear of some small way that grassroots efforts from throughout Japan are helping to comfort those in need.
In addition to volunteers and donations from throughout Hokkaido, we produce a great deal of the nation's food with a self-sufficiency rate of about 200%, and agriculture throughout the prefecture is further stepping up production to assist. Shortly after the disaster, in addition to dispatching its fleet of electrical repair vehicles and mobile generators, Hokkaido Electric opened a 600 MW link to mainland Japan to divert excess power. People throughout Hokkaido are making efforts to conserve power and resources, and we would like to say thank you very much for the consideration and understanding of our staying guests to help us reduce consumption.
The Fresh Powder team has provided blankets, pillows and bedding in addition to financial donations to the relief effort. For those who would like to reach out from afar, the Red Cross offers an organized worldwide charity program for relief donations.
We would also like to say a special thank you to thoughtful donations and contributions made by guests staying at Fresh Powder shortly after the earthquake.

The other regions are unharmed, and safe and normal as before. How is the Radiation Level? - NOT DANGEROUS! Except for the proximate areas near the nuclear power plants, there is no dangerous level of radiation detected in Japan. Tokyo is not within radiation contamination concern area, located over 200km (124 miles) away from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant facilities.
