While we're still remembering the awesome snow from last season, the 2008-2009 ski season is off to a great start with snow falling almost every day here in Hokkaido. At Fresh Powder, we have welcomed our first guests who have enjoyed the early season snow and uncrowded slopes. It's been a busy summer and fall for the Fresh Powder team with the purchase and renovation of our new five bedroom chalet in Furano, and some upgrades to our apartments.

Still planning a holiday this year? You will be interested to know that we have had some last-minute cancellations during our peak season. Live Webcams on Website

Fresh Powder has added some live webcam links to our website. Now you can check the conditions in Niseko or Furano any time. The Niseko cam shows the Magic Carpet at the bottom of the King Pair lifts in the Hirafu area. The Furano cam shows a streaming view of the slopes at the base of the Kitanomine Gondola. You can access either webcam via our Snow Report page.

Local News from the Resorts!

Furano Snow Domes and Wine Tasting

This year Furano's "Kan-Kan Mura" (Winter Village) snow domes are being set up just two doors down from Fresh Powder. Starting this year the snow domes will offer complimentary samples of Furano Wines. Furano's continental climate offers unique growing conditions for a Japanese wine, and some of the vintages use native mountain grapes adding a lot of local character. If you find one you like you can pick up a bottle or two at the new wine shop inside the Furano International Tourism Center next door.

Furano New Years Party Jan 10th

For everyone visiting Furano this January, be sure to check out the New Years Party on Jan 10th. 1,000 yen for all you can drink draught beer and soft drinks. There will be six cultural performances and a number of food stalls serving up local favourites. Please stop by the Furano / Biei International Tourism Center (in the Kitanomine Gondola Building) to get your tickets.
