"After a few months of regular ATM classes, I am more aware of how I am moving and how different parts of me relate to the whole. For example, in routine tasks at work and at home involving reaching, twisting, bending or lifting, I notice that I am able to avoid strains that are likely to result in pain. I am more aware in general, but not necessarily more self-conscious, which is good. And the class itself is a great tension reducer."

FALL FOR YOU

Autumn is both the season of the harvest and a time we look forward to starting afresh. We at the Feldenkrais Learning Center will begin a new series of classes and workshops in which you will reap the benefits of long summer days at the same time as your energy is boosted by the coming cooler weather.

Please read our featured article, Learning by Experiment is All in a Day's Play, by Chloe McIvor from "Nature News," to see how studies done at Stanford and MIT of preschoolers' spontaneous experiments exemplify Moshe Feldenkrais's approach to teaching. In Awareness Through Movement classes, students "learn to think without words, with images, patterns, and connections." Dr. Feldenkais taught that "that sort of thinking always leads to a new way of action."

Engaging our curiosity and playfulness, and recapitulating the way we spontaneously learned to move as children enables us to discover a much greater range of movement, an improved quality in moving, and more satisfaction in the ability to move freely. More importantly, we "learn how to learn," a benefit that enriches all aspects of our lives. When we awaken mindfulness and curiosity, we create new options and renew our vitality and youthfulness.

Come join us this fall for weekly classes and Sunday workshops. Our upcoming workshops provide opportunities to "Relieve Neck Pain," and "Learn to Stand Your Ground While Spreading Your Wings." Plus, you can explore "Lessons on a Roller to Improve Your Balance," improve your "Hill Running," and discover "Where Eyes Lead."

We are pleased to welcome our newest faculty member at the FLC this fall. Cynthia Crumlish joins our roster of Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioners.cm Cynthia will be teaching a weekly Sunday morning ATM class beginning September 18th at 11:00 a.m.

We all look forward to welcoming you back this fall!

FACULTY SIGHTINGS
Here's what some of our faculty have been up to in addition to the classes and workshops they are offering at the Center.

Marcy Lindheimer
Marcy continues to be on the move! She'll go to California to co-teach the third segment of the ABM Basic Training Course with Anat in September and the 2nd segment of the Mastery course ABM for Children in October. November 8th through the 14th, will find Marcy in Chicago working with children from the Midwest.

Barbara Forbes
Barbara will be teaching a new class at Sarah Lawrence College this year, "Feldenkrais Improvisation," while continuing to teach her regular ATM class there. In November, Barbara will join other graduates of Russell Delman's "Embodied Life Mentorship Program" for a graduate retreat. She looks forward to offering more "Embodied Living" workshops at the Learning Center and elsewhere over the coming year.

Scott Fraser
Scott is co-presenting with Frederick Schjang a five-week "Introduction to the Feldenkrais Method" seminar in October and November at Reebok Sports Club/NY. This series of group lessons is geared toward enhancing athletic performance for people of all ages and abilities.

Rachel Lidov
Rachel can be spotted at home, studying and playing, absorbing anatomical drawings and preparing to teach.

Sharon Oliensis

Sharon will be teaching Healing Movement in the New School Creative Arts Therapies program again this fall. This class explores the Feldenkrais Method, Tai Chi and Middleastern dance to discover the complementary benefits and principles behind these three approaches to movement. The class meets Friday afternoons and is open the general public.

Kathy Yates
Kathy will once again be introducing the Feldenkrais Method at the "Celebrating Life & Liberty" event for the John Theurer Cancer Center on Sunday, September 18, in Liberty State Park.
