The Coach Initiative
Dear Volunteers and Supporters of The Coach Initiative,
This month, we are delighted to highlight the incredible support that Sandy Vilas, one of The Coach Initiative's founding board members, has given us since our inception. Sandy is the CEO of CoachInc.com which owns Coach U and Corporate Coach U. Sandy helped Thomas Leonard found Coach University in 1992 and took the opportunity to purchase it in 1996. CoachInc.com now has over 18,000 students and graduates in 51 countries. In addition to hosting the launch celebration of The Coach Initiative in 2007, Sandy has served as one of our first volunteer leadership coaches, has offered coaching scholarships to several leaders of our client organizations and has provided substantial financial support. Please enjoy Phyllis Hayne's interview with Sandy.
We have been so touched by the outpouring of encouragement and support that we have received from you, our volunteers and supporters. We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to those who have already offered coaching services to our client organizations. The feedback that we have received confirms the value that you have provided and the impact that you are having on the effectiveness of those important nonprofit initiatives. We also want to express our gratitude to those of you who have reached into your hearts and pockets to make a financial contribution to help us refine our operations for scale and sustainability. Your support will help us to expand our reach for years to come.
We all know that one indication of our success is when we have the opportunity to welcome back a former client. We are pleased that our pilot project with Stand Up For Kids was so successful that they continue to request coaching support for their program directors. As volunteer coaches, we tend to think about our contribution in terms of impact. Sometimes we forget to acknowledge that these services do have a dollar value. SUFK did not. They asked us for that number for their annual reporting. Impressively, through 2008, our volunteers provided $30,000 of pro bono coaching. Thank you. The Coach Initiative is led and operated by volunteers except for the part-time and critical assistance of a program administrator. We have been blessed with excellent support.
We extend our warmest welcome to Alexia Longacre, who joined us in mid-March. Alexia has already contributed to our ongoing success. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations, she has been enhancing our communications and systems to provide a springboard for growth and a platform for sustainability. She is a powerhouse who is a joy to work with. We offer a parting note of appreciation to Maria van Hekken, a leadership coach, who served as our program administrator for the past year and a half as we moved from vision to reality. Maria encouraged us to engage a person who would be better suited to the operational needs of our organization. It was with great regret that we accepted Maria's resignation and with great respect that we acknowledge her wisdom about what is most needed now. While Maria will no longer serve as our program administrator, Maria has been extending her volunteer services on a special project that is near and dear to her heart. Maria, as past president of the Philadelphia Area Coaches Association, is coordinating a collaboration between The Coach Initiative and PACA. Philly coaches will support a Philadelphia area nonprofit project and The Coach Initiative will provide the operational support for matching, administration and evaluation.
Lot's of great things lay ahead! Please join us in bringing pro bono coaching to the non-profit world.
