Introducing "Sounds of Caldwell" by Kenneth K. Caldwell
|

Photo provided by: Mista Photo Photography
"Sounds of Caldwell"
Being able to
transcend your talent as a visual artist and to recognize the talent in other
artists requires an exceptional person with extreme insights. Few people in the art world can claim these
as rightly as Kenneth Caldwell. He
started his career in the field of visual arts by developing a finely tuned
listening ear which later helped him to create a style which reflected what he
heard.
For Caldwell, a Minneapolis native, the
love of art is in his genes. Father,
Charles Caldwell, is a mixed-media artist known for his contribution to the
Black art community over the past 25 years.
Kenneth has been strongly influenced by his father and has also worked
to create a body of work that stands on its own.
Kenneth's talents
were recognized at an early age (first grade) as he had his first official
public showing in Minneapolis while enrolled at North High
School. He has always had the support of family, friends, and community in
pursuit of his dreams as an artist.
Kenneth Caldwell has learned how important to his craft the continued
acknowledgement of exceptional talents among up and coming African-American
artists truly is-artists whose works have historically been overshadowed by
more established visual artists. As
such, Mr. Caldwell has created his body of work to show that young talent can
transcend race through the multiple expressions of art.
Caldwell's works belie his young age. With works reminiscent of Ernie Barnes, and a
unique contemporary sensibility, his pieces recreate the energy and spirit of
the African-American experience--from the Harlem Renaissance to today's Hip Hop
era. Lessons learned from his travels
across country to exhibit his work, combined with his own personal experiences,
have contributed greatly to the continuous evolution of Kenneth Caldwell and
his craft.
Check out artwork from Minneapolis' own Kenneth K. Caldwell at his official myspace page. Artwork is also available for purchase @ myspace.com/soundsofcaldwell.If you would like to feature artwork by Kenneth Caldwell at your event, contact us at contact_maxxposure@yahoo.com to set up an appointment. |

Was the "Plies" concert a HOAX?
|
 December 8th, 2007
Last Sunday night, Hundreds of people lined up outside of Trocaderos Nightclub money in hand ready to see the man they've all been waiting for. Only to find out hours later that not only is Plies not coming, but they will not be getting their money back. I, myself was not at this event so I figured why not get the exclusive rundown from someone who had the pleasure of witnessing "all hell" first hand...
**As told by witness**
A young lady approached a security guard to verify the cost of admission. She said that the Trocaderos
website listed the door price as $35, but when she called in, the Asian
lady at the front told her it was $45, and then when she got to the
club, the promoter charged her $50. She was then told
"It's not our door" and that the promoter pays the club a fee to rent the space
and makes their own determination on what to charge folks to get in.
The overcharging was rampant, and people just kept complaining.
Now,
being in the entertainment business, I observed that the club had made a couple of mistakes. The first was the
"no re-entry" policy being enforced, even though if they had allowed re-entry,
things could have gotten a lot worse. The second mistake was the way they
handled the door. Instead of having a pre-paid line and a "pay at the
door" line, they only had one line for all patrons. There were folks outside for upwards of two hours waiting to get in. This
is Minnesota, it was 8 degrees out. Folks started getting extremely
impatient, and began to crowd and rush the door. All I can say is,
despite how pissed off folks got after hanging out for four hours
without a cigarette, no re-entry was a good idea. Also by the looks of things there were about 1600 bodies in the club. Which has to be over max capacity for Trocaderos. 3rd Mistake.
Anyway, so the doors open at 8, which would
lead you to believe that, perhaps, the show would start at 9. A
perfectly reasonable assumption that would be true for any other show
featuring an artist, and two opening acts.
Not so in the case of
the Hip Hop show. They had about four or five "groups" who
didn't start performing until 11:30, at the earliest. At about 1:30, another "group" was "performing" and there was no sight
of Plies to be had. At 1:40, the lights went up, and all hell broke
loose.
So imagine...
It's 1:40am, you
spent from $35 to $200 (oh yeah, some folks got upcharged THAT much) to
get into the club. You spent the rest of your money on overpriced
drinks. You can't go outside to smoke. You've waited at least an hour to
get into the place. And you are just 1 of 1600 people in the same
circumstance. You're
drunk...so of course your pissed off when you find out that the only reason you came,
(to see Plies) was a lie.
Yes, that's right folks. It was a lie.
Plies did not perform. As far as I know, he never even made it to the
club at all. As far as I can tell, he was never going to be there at
all, anyhow. From what I've heard this same promoter pulled the same crap with another
performer a few months back.
So, what happens when you take 1600 angry Hip Hop fans, get them drunk, and tell them that you just ripped them off?
A riot.
Pepper
Spray, Mace, and Stun Guns come out. People get hit in the head with
Hennesy bottles. People were throwing beer bottles and glasses... The glass table
tops in the VIP section upstairs come flying over the balcony,
resounding through the club like gun shots, and chairs start bouncing
off the walls...
I could see the entire security staff rushing from melee to melee,
subduing the principals and tossing them out the side doors for the
cops to deal with. I even noticed a group of about 10 girls who had climbed
up on the back of the corner booths, shaking and huddled together for
safety. I even got caught on the edge of a Mace cloud courtesy of
Minneapolis finest.
It was definitely a crazy night.
**This point of view was not that of anyone employed or affiliated with Maxxposure Marketing Group**
There you have it. Was the "Plies" concert a hoax all along? Or was the snowstorm to blame for Plies absence? You be the judge.
