Lactate Threshold Testing

Friday, January 27th by appointment
Doug Bush

One of the most important parts of any structured training plan is to train at the correct intensity. Using a heart rate monitor or cycling power meter are both excellent methods to monitor intensity during workouts and races.

When using intensity monitoring devices, it is crucial to establish training zones based around your lactate threshold (LT), Sports Science research has shown that using lactate threshold to establish training zones is the most precise way to set up training zones.
Initial Exercise Assessment Test includes:
· VO2 Max. and Anaerobic Threshold data
· Results report. (see pdf on right)
· Heart Rate training zones
Cost: $120

Dear Cycling Friends,

Fluffy White Stuff At Last!!!It's great to finally see some white stuff outside our store windows and we're gearing up for an avalanche of fun these next few weeks...both inside the shop and out.

We'd like to take this opportunity to introduce our two newest staff members, Service Manager Ari Andonopolous and Director of Marketing Brian Damm. Ari hails from the Chicago area and is quickly making a name for himself as "that crazy guy" commuting daily to the shop from his home in Fayetteville. Ari's love for bikes is only surpassed by his love for helping people have fun on bikes and we are very excited that he has joined our team. He brings over 20 years experience in the bicycle industry and has big plans for a complete overhaul of our service area. Follow his passion for cycling on his blog.

Brian Damm was most recently Vice President of Television for local public television station WCNY and brings several years of marketing and video production experience to Syracuse Bicycle. An avid cyclist, Brian possesses a unique combination of passion and expertise that will undoubtedly bring a new flavor to all of our communications and events.

The avalanche within our shop begins shortly with a remodel of our service area! We're very excited about the new look and feel this will bring to our shop. And we've got some great upcoming in-store clinics from learning how to use that new Garmin Santa might have brought for you, to preventing common triathlon and cycling injuries.

The avalanche outside our shop begins with our Surly Snow Bike demo on Saturday, January 28th, from 12-3pm at Longbranch park. We're also kicking off our 2012 Iron Girl Training Program, scheduled to begin mid-May and guaranteed to get you to the finish line of your first triathlon with top-notch support and many laughs along the way.

2012 is already shaping up to be a quite a year for us here at Syracuse Bicycle. So get outside, grab a snowball and join us on what's going to be a wild ride!
Happy Riding,

Paul & Trish

Surly Snow Bike Demo

The Most Fun You'll Have on Two Wheels!

Saturday, January 28th, 12:00pm-3:00pm
Longbranch Park
Snow Bike Fun!

Laugh out loud fun. That's the only way to describe the experience of riding a snow bike. With their crazily oversized SUV tires, these bikes have attracted more stares than any other bike on our sales floor. But the only way to truly appreciate this bike, is to give it a spin.

And that opportunity is now yours at our 1st Surly Snow Bike Demo. Just bring a valid ID, helmet, warm clothes, and get ready for some Fatbike fun!  Once you've spent a winter outside playing on your Pugsley or Moonlander in the snow, indoor cycling won't even seem like a possible alternative anymore for staying in shape over the winter months.

Hot chocolate and cookies to all attendees, and bring the kids..there's a great sledding hill at Longbranch! RSVP to Brian right away!

And if you need any more convincing to come check this out, read this account of a newbie's experience on his Pug here

NYC Five Boro Bike Ride
Women on Wheels Heads to the City!

Saturday, May 5th - Sunday, May 6th

5 Boro Bike Tour Start
For those of you not familiar with this annual event, the Five Boro Bike Tour is your chance to be a queen of New York City streets for the day! The entire 42-mile route is closed to traffic, allowing the more than 30,000 participants to enjoy a leisurely ride through all five boroughs of the city. The ride is well supported with rest areas every 10 miles on the route.

Syracuse Bicycle is again taking a group of interested cyclists to this amazing event! We'll leave Syracuse early Saturday morning, May 5th, and spend the afternoon and evening enjoying everything that New York City has to offer. Then on Sunday morning, May 6th, our adventure starts in Lower Manhattan. Email Trish if you are interested. We'll plan on having a informational meeting later this month for any women who wants to join us on this big adventure!

IMPORTANT: Last year general tour registration sold out within 24-hours, leaving many eager cyclists without the opportunity to ride. This year there is a lottery registration system to ensure that bicyclists who want to participate will have a more fair and equitable chance. You can enter the lottery at any point between January 17 at 10:00 AM and February 7 at 5:00 PM. There is a nonrefundable $6 lottery registration fee for each person entering the lottery. Once the lottery registration period closes Tour Officials will send out e-mail notifications to inform you of your status. If you do not gain entry to the tour via the lottery system, you can still ride with one of our charity partners or as a VIP.

Click HERE for lottery registration more details about the ride.
