 Dear Cycling Friends,

Dick ShafferI never had the pleasure of meeting Dick Shaffer.  By all accouts, I missed out on opportunity to know a tremendous individual. A competitive cyclist, triathlete, and marathoner, Shaffer is remembered best for his "never give up" spirit.

Diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2003, Shaffer went into remission in 2005. During that year, he ran a marathon in Houston and joined Lance Armstrong on the Tour of Hope, a nationwide tour of cancer hospitals and fundraisers in which Shaffer encouraged cancer patients to never give up.

Shaffer's friends and family honor him each year with the Race for Hope, a 24-mile timed bicycle race that seeks to help find a cure for cancer.  Now in it's fifth year, the race returns to beautiful Borodino, seven miles south of Skaneateles on Sunday, May 29th at 8:30 a.m.

Register early for reduced rate of $30 online now at www.skanraces.com. The race course is one of the most scenic in Central New York, with rolling hills and vista views above Skaneateles Lake. Performance t-shirts are guaranteed to those registered before May 1st. All registrants receive water bottles, Livestrong bracelets, and bib numbers. The race is open to those 15 and older and there are awards for top three finishers by gender overall and in age groups.

All proceeds will support programs at the Center for Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital.
Won't you Ride for Hope this spring?

Happy Riding,

Trish Dugan
