Dear Cycling Friends,

NachosSuperbowl Sunday brings platters of nachos, piles of chicken wings, and a plethora of foods that you typically try to avoid if you've been looking to make improvements in your health and fitness this year. The good news is that one day of overindulgence won't completely erase the hard work you've done since the beginning of January.

The bad news is that by this time of year many people are well on their way to abondoning their New Year's commitment to a healthier lifestyle. February in Central New York can be downright depressing.  Particularly when all we seem to see is more snow, gray skies, and no sign of spring.

Convincing yourself to head outdoors or to the gym for your daily workout is challenging for even the most motivated athlete.  So what can you do when your first impulse is to dive back into your warm, cozy bed when the alarm rings at 5:00am?

Look for motivation where ever you can find it. For me, this means working out with a group and drawing on their energy and enthusiasm. Give one of our popular indoor cycling classes a try and you'll see your time on the trainer go by much faster then if you're pedaling alone. Our full schedule of classes can be found under Store Happenings.

Plan for an early season race. If your goal is the Syracuse 70.3 Ironman Triathlon, a fall marathon, or a late summer century ride, you may have a hard time getting motivated because your goal race is a little too far away! Set an intermediary goal of racing an Olympic triathlon or even a "practice" 70.3 in June. You'll be able to try out your race strategy, test your fitness, and then refocus for your target race at the end of the summer.

Our Early Season Triathlon Training Program kicks off this week and it's not too late to sign up! We'll make sure you're staying motivated with our fun twice-weekly group workouts and you'll get a jump start on what could be your best season ever! Email trish@syracusebicycle.com  for more information.

Retul Bicycle Fitting System
Coming to Syracuse Bicycle

Retul is the most advanced bicycle fitting system available today and Syracuse Bicycle will soon be the ONLY certified Retul fitter in the Central New York region. The system incorporates an amazingly precise three-dimensional motion capture technology, immediate report capability, and millimeter-specific digitizing tool to provide the most accurate dynamic fitting solution in the industry.

Bicycle fitting is best measured during dynamic pedaling action. Static measurements tell the fitter very little about how the rider's body reacts and interacts in biomechanical motion. The Retul system reads the body in motion, in three dimensions.

An observer watching a cyclist while pedaling cannot measure lateral, vertical and horizontal movement. The Retul system eliminates the guesswork and assumptive nature of fitting, providing the fitter with the most accurate data set available in bike fitting.  The result is that the rider will have a true fit to his or her bike, maximizing efficiency and performance while avoiding discomfort or injury.

Our Retul Fit Studio will soon be a reality as we put the finishing touches on our community room remodeling project!  So stay tuned for more information about this exciting and unique bike fit system and just exactly when you can schedule your session!
