Dear Cycling Friends,

On September 12th, 2002, I lost my sister-in-law, CJ Ryan, to breast cancer. She was my oldest brother's wife and mother to three beautiful girls who at the time were aged 13, 10, and 7 years.

In the five years CJ battled cancer, we only saw her cry only once. "That was when the doctor told her she had the disease," recalls my brother Steve. "After that, she would give us a reassuring smile as she endured her often very painful treatments."

What I remember most about CJ was her devotion to family. Five years earlier, a career change brought my family to Philadelphia where my brother's family lived. At the time, I was a new mom and like most, trying to adjust to the demands of a toddler and acclimate to life in a new area. CJ immediately called and set up twice weekly playdates for our one-year-olds.

We spent many hours together over the next two years, taking care of our children and laughing. Always laughing. CJ was there to lend a hand, an ear. She taught me much about motherhood. About finding joy in every day you spend with your children.

Eight years ago this week, I lost my sister-in-law. My friend. My role-model. Please join me on October 9th as I remember CJ Ryan, and the hundreds of thousands of other women who have lost their life to this disease.

Registration is now open for the 2nd Annual Syracuse Bicycle Breast Cancer Awareness Ride to be held on Saturday, October 9th at 10 a.m. The ride offers a 25-mile route on the flat, scenic roads north of Green Lakes State Park and a 10-mile family-friendly route on the Erie Canal path. Fees for each are $25 and all proceeds will go to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Each rider receives a goody bag, an opportunity to win great door prizes, and enjoy a post-ride party with live music and food!

7:30am check in

Come one, come all for what's sure to challenge you to your core! The 2nd annual Cazenovia Hill Bender will take place on Saturday, October 2nd at Chittenango Falls State Park. The courses are designed to challenge the novice and test the expert alike. The courses tour the outlying areas of Cazenovia, NY, taking advantage of it's scenic splendors and geographic diversity. Three different tour lengths offer all competition levels a day of riding that won't soon be forgotten.

The event, however, isn't just about testing your muscles. All proceeds will go to the Two Smiles One Hope Foundation. Two Smiles was founded in 2007 by Fayetteville residents Matthew and Alison Willis in order to raise money and awareness for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The Hill Bender Race will provide a 39-mile course with over 2000 ft of climbing. The Hill Bender Lite is a 19-mile ride just shy of 1000 ft of climbing. The Bike-a-thon is a new category that will raise money with each lap athletes complete.

This is will provide a fantastic family-oriented event for the community! Check in begins at 7:30am and all races will start together at 9am. Find more information and registration here.

Cervelo eRide Recap

Cervelo eRide1

On Friday, September 10th over a dozen employees from Syracuse Bicycle and Cervelo alike gathered at Marcellus Town Park to prepare for attempt #2 at the Cervelo Test eRide. The day provided much kinder weather. With a high of 70, slight breezes and a few drifting clouds.

Rolling up in fancy custom vans, Cervelo reps began to roll out even fancier bikes. No matter the rider there was a bike for everyone. From the R series road bikes to the S series aero race bikes and of course the ever-popular triathlon P series, riders came from hours away to test ride each one.

The eRide was a rare opportunity and Syracuse Bicycle fans blew the TestRide out of the water with over 70 attendees. The average attendance on a weekday was projected by reps to be about 25-30 cyclists. Riders would submit a license and credit card while they were out on bike and take it for a ride around the Marcellus area.

But it wasn't just the beautiful weather and bikes that made the evening great. Culinary sensations were cooked and served by Syracuse Bicycle's very own Brad "Turbo". It was an all-American evening with burgers, dogs, chip and brews. The event lasted for four hours and was well attended the whole time.

The postponement was well worth the wait and proved to be a great success, largely due to the overwhelming support and enthusiasm of our customers. We hope you had as great a time as we did!
