| Is Your Bike Race Ready? | |
Be Prepared!
Syracuse Ironman 70.3
1.2 miles of swimming.
56 miles of cycling.
13.1 miles of running.
4.5 to 8 hours to finish.
30 minutes lost on race day waiting for the sag wagon to arrive to fix your flat tire.
Don't let all those hours you've devoted to training over the past six months go to waste. There is nothing worse than having a mechanical issue with your bike on race day. So take a lesson from the Boy Scouts: Be Prepared.
Drop your bike off with us at least a week prior to race day and our service department will be happy to check it over and make sure it's in good working order. We will let you know if a tune-up or more involved repair work is required.
If you ride enough miles, you've likely discovered that you're bound get a flat at some point. Syracuse Bicycle service technicians will be driving the course on race day providing mechanical support, but you may have to wait awhile for them to reach you!
There is so much that can happen on race day that you CAN'T control: getting a flat, the weather, your competition to name a few. But you CAN feel confident about being able to fix a flat - it just takes practice. And we can help. Come to our Basic Bicycle Repair Class on Thursday, September 16th, from 6-7pm and learn how to fix a flat yourself.
And remember to always carry everything you need to fix a flat on race day. That includes 2 spare tubes, tire levers, a CO2 inflater and 2 COs cartridges, all packed up neatly in a small bag that fits under your saddle.

Dear Cycling Friends, We know it's hard to think about the cold weather when the thermometer is hitting 90 degrees this week. But let's face it. It's already September and those colder days will be here before you know it. And we are so enthusiastic about riding bikes that we want you to continue cycling well into October and even November! SmartWool, Patagonia and some great new Garneau clothing will keep you well protected on those cooler and even wet rides. We have a fantastic selection of jackets, knickers, and tights for fall (and winter!) riding in stock now! But for now, let's ignore the fact that the colder weather is just around the corner. To help you through these last heat waves we have restocked our entire clearance rack with summer items up to 50% off. Pick up some new fashions while the weather still allows or just stock up for the spring thaw (psst...everybody loves holiday gifts from the bike shop!). Happy School Year! Since the kids are back at school, this may just provide you with some spare time on your hands. What better way to start off what is always the most troublesome time of year for keeping in shape than to get back on that bike? For all the ladies out there, Trish will be leading Women on Wheels Thursday beginner rides each week at 11am starting September 16th. Each week will feature a new cycling "lesson"--from fixing a flat to the most efficient way to tackle our locals hills.
Cascading Leaves. Autumn is one of, if not the most, scenic time for cycling. And Upstate New York is privileged to have some truly beautiful roads to ride. Here are a few of our favorites!
- East: Pompey Hollow, Oran Delphi, Poolsbrook & Kinderhook, Lakeshore Rd, Island Rd, South Bay Rd and Muskrat Bay;
- South: Tully Farms, Jamesville-Apulia Rd, Anything In Skaneateles, Gorge Rd/RT 13;
- West: Pleasant Valley Rd, Slate Hill Rd, Warners Rd, Bennetts Corners;
- North: Hencle Blvd, Sixty Rd, Kellogg Rd, Dinglehole Rd, Plainville Rd.
Safety First. With the sun rising later and setting earlier, don't forget to bring out your high visibility clothing. Wearing something reflective and bright will make you much more visible to cars on the road. And if you ride before or after work, equip your bike with front and rear lights!
Happy Riding,
The Syracuse Bicycle Family |

Cervelo eRide Rescheduled
FRIDAY, September 10th
3-7pm
Annex Picnic Shelter
Marcellus Park
2449 Platt Rd
We apologize for any inconvenience the rescheduling of this event has caused. Given the weather conditions, it was truly a testament to the brand to see how many people still took time out of their day to make the trip to Marcellus Park. Unfortunately, our eRide day coincided with what syracuse.com claimed to be the second rainiest day in Syracuse, EVER. Needless to say, this resulted in some extremely unsafe riding conditions for our customers.
If you have already pre-registered, you are all set. Just show up on Friday, September 10th ready for the ride of your life!
