Race 4 Hope Starting Line | Dear Cycling Friends,
We closed out the month of May last weekend with some of the nicest weather we've seen in Central New York in recent memory! While some of you may have been enjoying the sunny days with picnics or gardening, we were happy to be out supporting the Race 4 Hope in beautiful Borodino, NY, not far from Skaneateles. The Race 4 Hope seeks to help find a cure for cancer and is inspired by Dick Shaffer, a Borodino resident and triathlete, who passed away from cancer in 2006. His "never give up" spirit lives on in this 24-mile citizen's race with all proceeds supporting research at the Center for Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital. In the men's race, Randy Hadzor, Tim O'Shea, and Eric Korolewski took the top three spots. Ruth Sherman, Lilynn Graves, and Kate Stewart finished first, second and third respectively in the women's race. Congratulations to everyone who came out in support of this great event. Full results can be viewed here.
We can all hope that the sunny days are here to stay for the summer, but we all know how the weather works around here and it's still entirely possible to have cold mornings or chilly evenings. Winter cycling apparel is now 50% off, so hurry in to check out our clearance rack. We have amazing deals on long sleeve jerseys and winter jackets. You won't see lower prices!
We're happy to welcome Jaime Lawlor to the Syracuse Bicycle staff this summer! Jaime graduated from Boston College last month with a degree in communications and was member of the cycling team there. She will be helping Trish Dugan with our store newsletter, Facebook page, and website, as well as leading several store rides and representing Syracuse Bicycle at events this summer! If you haven't become a "fan" of Syracuse Bicycle yet on Facebook, we encourage you to check out our store page! We'll be adding lots of great content daily and hope our fans use the site to communicate not only with us but connect with others who share our passion for all things cycling related!
Happy Riding!

**Join our NEW listserv for all Women on Wheels ride information: WOW Group. And don't forget to check our new group out on Facebook!***
We've expanded our WOMEN ON WHEELS program to now offer four rides per week for women cyclists! Thursdays will focus on the very beginner cyclist who hopes to gain more confidence on the road. We are now hosting rides at BOTH 11am and 6pm each week on Thursdays! Both will be "no-drop" rides, which means that we will make sure the last person makes it back safely. Other riders are welcome to ride ahead if desired and ride maps will be provided.
For the more experienced female riders who may be training for a local triathlon, want to get into bike racing, or just fit women who are looking for a group ride, WOMEN ON WHEELS now offers both Tuesday night AND Saturday morning rides at a faster pace (15+mph).
THIS WEEK, however, our weekend ride has been changed to SUNDAY, June 6th. Join Lorie Ann for a morning on the IronGirl triathlon course. Meet at Oneida Shores County Park in Brewerton at 7am on the beach ready to swim. The bike portion will start at 8am, followed by a run.

Speed Concept 9 Series
"Nothing faster, period."

Trek Bicycles has just released their Speed Concept 9 Series, a triathlon bike that has been remolded, remodeled and redesigned to provide one of the most aerodynamic tri-bikes to hit the scene. By studying the physics of the wind tunnel, wheel drag and wind resistance, Trek redesigned every single aspect of their triathlon bike to maximize its aerodynamics. It provides more adjustability than the average road bike through six stem options and 14cm of height adjustment. All cables, breaks and wires have been completely hidden from the outside of the bike and thus shielded from the wind to eliminate any possible drag resistance. Even the quick releases are built in and molded to fit the shape of the bicycle. Since rarely is a headwind ever dead-on from the front, Trek tested out some of the most competitive Ironman courses to gather information about crosswinds, a factor that is generally overlooked in bicycle architecture. They then tested their Concept 9 in a wind tunnel to determine an optimum yaw angle, or apparent wind angle, which causes wheel drag. Another redesigned aspect of the bike includes an equipment storage container that actually makes the bike more aerodynamic than if it were without. Invisible brakes, internal electronics and an improved tube shape all contribute to the reduced frontal surface area and create one of, if not THE fastest triathlon bike ever. Offering five different models-including women's specific designs, this bike is built for the tri-athletic speed demon and begins retailing at $5,774.99; a small price to pay for minutes off that personal record you just can't seem to break. Learn more at Trek Bicycles. Syracuse Bicycle will begin carrying the Speed Concept 9 Series in August. |
