JA BizTown

Summer Camp 2012

June 25-29 or

July 9-13

JA BizTown Summer Camp is the place to be this summer! Our day camp gives kids aged 10-13 the chance to experience real-world opportunities and responsibilities as they help build and operate their own community.

Campers will apply and interview for jobs, hold elections, work as part of a business team, and bring out their own entrepreneurial spirit as they think up ways to innovate their products and services.

Campers do not have to have prior JA BizTown experience to be part of this week of fun and learning. Space is limited, so register early. For more information and to download a registration form visit our Summer Camp web page.

Dear Junior Achievement Supporters,
Trent Klingensmith

April is National Financial Literacy Month, a time dedicated to highlighting the importance of teaching our young people to be financially responsible. Although Junior Achievement carries out this mission daily, the month of April provides the perfect opportunity to open conversations with our students about healthy money management, responsible spending, and the importance of saving.

Junior Achievement USA and the Allstate Foundation have partnered together to bring you Junior Achievement $ave USA, free educational resources for parents, volunteers and educators that help students develop a higher level of personal financial understanding. Additionally, there are interactive lessons for students and action plans to help parents talk to their kids about the importance of saving. Download the free tools here.

While money management conversations should not be limited to 30 days, National Financial Literacy Month is a great time to start the personal finance dialogue with your kids and help set them up for a successful future. I know this will be a topic at the dinner table with my own two boys.

Sincerely,

Trent Klingensmith
President, Junior Achievement of Middle Tennessee

JA Board Members, Volunteers, & Staff  Take Over

East Nashville Elementary School

JA in a Day at Dan Mills Elementary School
Every student in Kindergarten-4th grade at Dan Mills Elementary in
East Nashville received JA programs as part of JA in a Day held March 1.
More than 40 individuals from 16 different Nashville-area companies joined together earlier this month to teach students from East Nashville valuable skills in money management, responsibility, and community involvement.

On March 1, the students from Dan Mills Elementary School in Nashville's Inglewood neighborhood received these lessons as part of JA in a Day, a one-day event hosted by Junior Achievement of Middle Tennessee.
All 471 students in Kindergarten through 4th grade at the Metro Nashville Public School learned about their roles in the community, the city, and the region.

Thanks to volunteers from Allstate, Barge Waggoner Sumner and Cannon, Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, Bridgestone Americas, Caterpillar Financial Services, Dan Mills Elementary School PTO, Deloitte, First Tennessee Bank, Ford Motor Credit, HCA, Ingram Industries, Junior Achievement of Middle Tennessee, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Trevecca Nazarene University, TVA, and US Bank for making this day a success!

A Whole Lotta Hula at the 2012 Bowl-A-Thon!

Limbo contestant.
How low can he limbo?
Limbo is just one of the on-site contests held during the
Luau on the Lanes Bowl-a-Thon. Think you can limbo lower?

The 2012 Luau on the Lanes  Bowl-a-Thon is off to a great start! In the last week, more than 600 bowlers have gathered at Hermitage Lanes and Franklin Lanes to celebrate their fundraising efforts during the 2012 Bowl-A-Thon season. From grass skirts and Hawaiian shirts to limbos and leis, bowlers embraced their island spirit in style.

To view photographs from the events last week and all season long, visit our albums on Flickr.

Junior Achievement's Bowl-A-Thon is a grass-roots fundraising event where teams of bowlers raise funds and then have fun at area bowling centers. This event also provides opportunities for networking and team building...all while ensuring that JA programs are offered at no cost to area students!

Various bowling dates and locations are offered throughout the Spring. It's not too late to get involved; contact Laura Buchanan for more information.
