Dear JA Supporters,
Trent Klingensmith

Last month, we recognized the Top Ten Volunteer Companies based on classroom involvement. Deloitte taught 1,914 students in 94 classrooms and was named Top Volunteer Company for the 2009-2010 school year. The local employees taught nearly 10% of the total number of students who received JA's classroom-based programs in Middle Tennessee last year. What an accomplishment!

The company also volunteered to rebuild 32 JA program kits and perform much-needed structural maintenance in JA BizTown as part of the company's national IMPACT Day campaign.

Deloitte's commitment to support JA not only reaches students in Middle Tennessee but impacts young people all across the country. The company is collaborating with Junior Achievement USA on a
$2 million project known as Excellence through Ethics. This program is designed to train students from 4th-12th grades to make ethical choices in school and later in the workplace. Deloitte also underwrites the JA Business Ethics program for high school students to further illustrate the importance of ethical decision-making.

The need for ethics education is confirmed by the Junior Achievement/Deloitte Teen Ethics Survey, in which 38% of students believed cheating, stealing, plagiarizing, and behaving violently is sometimes, often, or always necessary to succeed in school. Deloitte CEO Barry Salzburg addresses this in a Forbes.com article

We are grateful for the passion and zeal of Deloitte employees here in Middle Tennessee for teaching our young people to be smart, well-prepared, and ethical leaders in tomorrow's work force. These men and women are inspirational figures in classrooms across the area. On behalf of our students, I extend a heartfelt thanks to Deloitte for their commitment to Junior Achievement.

Sincerely,

Trent Klingensmith
