For JA BizTown, the New Year is a time to not only explore the exciting new ideas 2010 brings, but also to look back on what has already been accomplished.  Our Open House gave us the opportunity to see just how much was achieved last semester.

JA BizTown students who participated this fall were invited back to show their families and friends what they learned.  Over 100 people stopped by to see what JA BizTown was all about.  Each citizen led their family through an exciting scavenger hunt taking them all over town.  From making a deposit at the Bank, to recording an advertisement at the AT&T TV Station, parents got to see their child use the financial literacy and business skills they learned in JA BizTown.  But the fun didn't stop there!  Thanks to a kind donation from Jason's Deli, each citizen received a free kid's meal for all their hard work.  And three lucky families won tickets to the Ringling Bros. & Barnum & Bailey circus, courtesy of American General Life and Accident.  Our annual Open House was a fitting way to close out a great semester!

But 2010 is also bringing some exciting new additions to JA BizTown.  This summer, we will be piloting our first ever JA BizTown Summer Camp!  Middle Tennessee students aged 10 - 13 will have the opportunity to spend a whole week learning and working in JA BizTown.  If you, or anyone you know, are interested in learning more about summer camp, visit www.janash.com/summercamp.  Schedules, fees and registration dates are still being finalized, but we will be happy to send updated information to those who are interested.

Thanks to all the hard work done by teachers, citizens, volunteers and staff in 2009.  We're excited and ready to launch into 2010!

Dear JA Supporters,

It's another new year. Another new beginning. If you resolve to do one thing different this year, I encourage you to do this: find your passion. Whether it's local or global, find it, live it, do it. Make a difference in your community by giving your time and energy to something that tugs at your heartstrings. If that passion is helping kids prepare for the real world, well, we've got a whole newsletter full of ideas to jump-start you in the right direction. Together, we can make 2010 a year of vision, of purpose, and of passion. And together we can accomplish so many great things!

Happy New Year!

Trent

Opportunities for Education
Volunteer Resources Online

Have you ever completed a JA class and wished there were more activities to do with the students? Is it a challenge to find a cassette player to play the song from the 2nd grade Our Community Program? Do you wish there was an easy to use template for student certificates?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you should check out our Volunteer Resource Page. It is packed with lots of useful tools for JA volunteers. We appreciate the time you spend out of your day to work with our young people. If there is anything else that we can add to this page to make things easier for you, please let us know. Contact the JA Programs staff at education@janash.com.
