Inside the President's Corner with Trent Klingensmith
 Dear JA Supporters,
It is hard to believe that it is already time to get my kids
ready to go back to school. Watching them gear up for a new year, with new
supplies and new clothes, I remember getting ready for my first day each year
and the nervous, excited feeling I would get. Would I like my teacher? Would
any of my friends be in my class?
Now I look at the first day of school as an opportunity to
open doors for learning. The chance for a fresh start. The chance to make
learning fun for our children. Junior Achievement is the perfect way to do
that. Even in the hectic rush of back-to-school, I'd like to ask you to think
about JA this year. Consider committing to host JA in your classroom or
volunteer to teach one of JA's in-class programs. (We've got new programs
available this year. See below.)
If
giving of your time is too much to ask, if looking at your calendar is already
making your head spin, consider sponsoring a JA program for a child. It only
takes $34 to give JA's valuable, real-world programs to a Middle Tennessee student.
We all know the workplace is constantly changing, the world
is demanding that our students possess certain skills and attributes. JA gives
students these skills. Teachers spend 6-8 hours a day with their students, but
our children are learning all the time. Let's give our students a fun, engaging
way to learn all the skills the world demands. Let's give them JA.
Good luck as you get ready for a new school year!
Sincerely,
Trent

Lights! Camera! Action! JA BizTown films new training videos

After
a summer of closed doors and quiet shops, a Friday morning in early August found JA BizTown's
doors opened, its lights turned on, and its shops once again full of students
hard at work. However, these hard working students were not the everyday CEOs
and Sales Managers usually seen inside BizTown's fourteen businesses, but stars
in all new JA BizTown videos!
About
twenty five students from several schools in the Middle Tennessee area joined in on the JA BizTown staff's effort to create a new, exciting way to learn
about JA BizTown. They day stayed fast-paced and busy as the JA staff partnered
with a 2-man video crew from cj Advertising, who had volunteered to help with
the project to pursue a goal of enhancing our volunteer training with visually
engaging videos.
A series of scenes from an average visit day were filmed to
allow a glimpse of all that JA BizTown has in store in order to better prepare
both students and volunteers. The videos will serve as an example for the
students to follow and a window into the flow of the day for volunteers.
The
revamped training videos are just a part of the JA BizTown staff's ongoing mission
to continually improve the JA BizTown experience. As the next school year
starts, we hope these new videos will better prepare and equip volunteers and
students, and further enhance the hands-on learning experienced by thousands of
students in the coming years.

High School Students Experience AT&T with Summertime Job Shadow
On Tuesday, July 21st, students from Preston Taylor
Ministries and Oasis Center
came together to shadow employees at AT&T Advertising Solutions. Students were able to design their own Yellow
Pages ad, understand the cost and effectiveness of online advertising, and
listen in on actual sales calls! Thanks to AT&T Job Shadow Hosts for
exposing these students to "real" life!
If you are a teacher or company that would like to
participate in JA Job Shadow this school year, please email Andy Schenck or call 615.627.1186.
