Inside the President's Corner with Trent Klingensmith
Dear JA Supporters,
Another great year at JA is about to end and I would like to
take this moment to tell you a little about the great things that we've
accomplished. First, JA has partnered
with HCA to launch a new program called Careers with a Purpose, which piloted
in 15 classes this year and is designed to get high schoolers thinking about
possible careers. We also helped develop
the Economics on my Street program with the Community Impact Youth of Oasis
Center, which will be launched next year. JA BizTown™ has had a hugely successful first
year of operation in Middle Tennessee; both teachers and students are much
happier with the changes we have made. And
most importantly, nearly 45,000 kids in Middle Tennessee have benefited from JA
programs. Our overall goal is to reach
60,000 kids by 2010-2011 school year and I believe with teachers and volunteers
like you we are well on our way! Lastly,
thank you to my wonderful wife for the help and support in teaching several
classes at Nolensville Elementary.
Till Next Time, Trent Klingensmith

Correction Robert L. Johnson was inadvertently named as Robert L. Jackson in last month's U.S. Business Hall of Fame article. We apologize for this mistake and would like to once again congratulate Mr. Johnson on his induction. |

Dear JA Partner,
As our volunteers and teachers finish their time in the classroom for the year, we are reflecting on the huge impact that they have had on the lives of thousands of students. Thank you for your time and efforts!
Spring is a busy time for events! The 2008 Bowl-a-Thon is coming to a close and the Golf Classic is just a couple of weeks away. The companies that support these events also make a huge difference for Middle Tennessee children. Thank you for ensuring their success!

JA Has New Programming!
So where can you find a program that teaches "at-risk" youth
about financial literacy, choices they have within their community, and the
benefits of staying in school?
Economics on MY Street, that's where!
Economics on MY Street is a high school program containing
12 lessons designed to teach youth the "real" economics of their unique life as
well as how their choices regarding education and finances will affect their
future.
In partnership with Community Impact Youth of Oasis Center
and JA of Middle Tennessee, this new program will be available this coming
school year 2008/2009. With the help of
our volunteers, this quality program will help these students learn the lessons
of life pertaining to money, financial responsibility, and the importance of
the skills needed to make a person employable and productive.

JA BizTown Buzz
Each day in JA BizTown, students produce a
newspaper they sell to their fellow JA BizTown citizens. Each edition includes
news articles, feature stories, editorials, and of course - advertisements.
These are just a few examples of the great writing from recent JA BizTown
Newspaper staff members.

 JA BizTownby Hannah
CEO of The JA Newspaper, Crockett Elementary School
You know, JA BizTown is a very interesting place, it is run very well by our wonderful Mayor, Deaton Hildabrand. BizTown also has kind, cooperative employees in the businesses. Everyone is helpful and fast, so we can get a lot of things done pretty quick. I also really love the scenery when I look out the window. ... I hope you will agree with me when I say JA BizTown is a perfect place to work!

Dog Food Interview
By Sara
Reporter for The JA Newspaper, Crockett Elementary School
When I went to the pet store to see if I could learn something, it was crawling with information! I interviewed Stephen Marconcini, an employee there. He said the Pet Store was running very smoothly and he more than enjoyed it. He feels very good about JA BizTown and he also feels like a benefit to his business because he takes all the checks to the bank for the business. Overall, this interview has gone to the dogs! | |
