City Wins Best Restored Beach Award  The City of Isle of Palms is pleased to announce that the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association selected the Isle of Palms as a Best Restored Beach in 2011. Congratulations to the City and all the people and entities who made the project, constructed in 2008, a success! Mayor Dick Cronin says," The beach is back to its natural beauty. It is very gratifying to see the emerging dunes, vegetation and restoration of habitat." |
Thomson Park Dedication at 11a.m. on June 18 on Sullivan's Island at Breach Inlet Dedication of a new public park on Sullivan's Island, planned by a group of interested citizens, will occur at 11a.m. on Saturday, June 18 at Breach Inlet. "Thomson Park" will commemorate the patriot defense against a British attack from Long Island, former name of the Isle of Palms, in June 1776. City Council Contemplates Parking Changes
 On May 25, City Council and the Planning Commission held a special, joint meeting to discuss changes to the island's parking. Click here to watch a video of the meeting. City Council directed staff to research the possibility of constructing small parking lots at selected beach access paths on Ocean Boulevard and restricting parking on streets from 10th Avenue to Breach Inlet to residential parking only. The final budget that will be presented for comment at the June 28 Public Hearing at 6:45 p.m. and for second reading at the June 28 City Council Meeting at 7:00 p.m. is expected to include expenditures related to these parking changes. |
