Fire Safety Tips -
Safe Travel
Fire Department Sign
With a few more months of early darkness, safe travel at night is important.  When walking outdoors at night,

always wear bright clothing and carry a flashlight. When bicycling, use a head light and a rear red-light.  Children should walk in pairs, and adults should remember what children are wearing.

Lowcountry Blues Bash
February 5th and 6th

Lowcountry Blues Bash
Get your Blues fix at the annual Lowcountry Blues Bash on Saturday, February 5th from 5:00-8:30 p.m. and Sunday, February 6th from 2:00-5:30 p.m.  Shows are at the IOP Rec and tickets are $5 at the door.  Call 843-886-8294 for more information.
Please Use Paper Bags for Yard Debris

Yard Debris BagsThe best way to dispose of yard debris - leaves and clippings - is in biodegradable paper bags.  The City delivers yard debris collected on the Isle of Palms to the County disposal site, which turns yard debris into valuable compost.  Plastic bags do not compost.  Paper bags for yard debris are available at local retailers, such as Lowe's, and using them ensures that your yard debris can be recycled in the most environmentally friendly way possible.

Volunteers Needed for Water Quality Study

City Council intends to appoint an ad hoc committee to study water quality on the island and is looking for volunteers.  One of the committee's goals is to identify and reduce pollutants going into the creeks and marshes to facilitate the opening of more shellfish grounds.  If interested, please contact City Clerk Marie Copeland at mcopeland@iop.net or 843-886-6428 by January 26.
