Take Police Department Citizen Survey
Police Seal
The Isle of Palms Police Department is dedicated to public service and community relations.  Please tell the Police Department how they are doing by taking the brief Citizen Survey.  Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

 Parking Management Program Under Discussion
The Planning Commission and City Council have been contemplating changes to the island's parking to increase the safety and enjoyment of both residents and visitors.  Among the ideas discussed are requiring payment for parking, re-arranging parking, and clearing obstructions in the right-of-way.  These discussions are in the early phases, but the City would appreciate citizen feedback.  Click here to access the City Calendar for meetings where parking will be discussed and to read meeting minutes.

Radio Tower on the Isle of Palms?
The radios that Police Officers and Firefighters use to talk are essential in an emergency.  The City's radio system, which is part of Charleston County's radio system, was converted from an analog system to a digital system.  The digital system does not work as well as the City of Isle of Palms expects to maintain maximum safety.  One proposed solution suggested by the County is the installation of a radio tower on the Isle of Palms.  While no decision has been made, those interested in the issue can read the Public Safety Committee Meeting Minutes to learn the particulars of the issue.
CameraCity Council Passed Ordinance Allowing Some Commercial, Still Photography on Beach

At its September 28 meeting, City Council passed second reading and ratification of Ordinance 2010-12, which changes the law related to commercial, still photography on the beach.  The City has a proud history of protecting the beach from commercial enterprises; however, citizen feedback encouraged Council to consider allowing some commercial photography on a limited basis.  Photographers may not actively solicit clients on the beach.  However, commercial photographers who have made previous arrangements with clients may take still photographs on the Isle of Palms beach for up to one hour per day.  All persons conducting business on the Isle of Palms must have a City of Isle of Palms business license.
