Safety Tip: Family Education |
 |
A family that is educated about what to do in a fire is a safer family. Make sure children understand how to stop, drop and roll. Practice your evacuation plan. And, bring the children to the Isle of Palms Public Safety Building where they can visit the "Sparky" Room to learn about fire safety.

Dog Licensing and Doggie Day at the Rec on February 27 Heard the hoopla? Isle of Palms City Council has recently reviewed its dog licensing policy, and after receiving much input from citizens, a new proposal will be considered at Tuesday night's Council meeting, February 23 at 7PM in City Hall. The Ways and Means Committee has recommended that the license fee be $5 for residents and property owners, who must show proof of rabies vaccination for their dogs. If Council approves the recommendation, it will be effective March 1, 2010. Watch the City website for details. The Public Safety Committee will consider whether a policy is needed for dogs of visitors at the 5:30PM meeting on Wednesday, March 10. Those who would like to comment on the visitor dog policy are encouraged to attend the meeting at the Public Safety Building at 30 J.C. Long Boulevard.
Residents can get a rabies vaccine and a City dog license from 9-11AM at the annual Doggie Day at the Rec on Saturday, February 27. Most importantly, you can show off your four-legged family member's best qualities in one of the many competitions. Woof, woof! |
City Receives Best Possible Audit Opinion
The City has received the results of its annual financial audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2009. The City's auditors, Greene, Finney and Horton, have issued an "unqualified" opinion, meaning the auditors did not identify any element of the City's fiscal operations that created a concern. Highlights from the audit presentation made to City Council include "Year-end financial condition is very good" and "unreserved fund balance increased $274,000."
