Residential Rental Licenses Due August 31

Owners and agents of Isle of Palms residential rental properties must renew rental licenses by August 31, 2009.  Owning or operating rentals without an Isle of Palms residential rental license is a violation of City ordinances. For more information contact the Building Department at 843-886-9912. 
 
Register Now for Special Needs Assistance

Hurricane Season began June 1, and all residents should have a personal disaster preparedness plan.  The Isle of Palms Fire Department will provide assistance to folks who are elderly, disabled or have special needs.  Call 843-886-4410 to register now for special assistance in an emergency.   
 
Blue Wave Beach Certification

For the 8th year in a row, the City of Isle of Palms is proud to have been certified as South Carolina's only Blue Wave Beach.  The certification is given by the Clean Beaches Council to beaches that meet specific criteria related to cleanliness, environmental stewardship, safety and access to the public.
 
 
Fireworks 
 
July 4th Fireworks Display  

This Saturday, July 4th, the City will celebrate our country's independence with a spectacular fireworks celebration!  The show will start at approximately 9:15 PM over Front Beach.  A large crowd is expected, so space will be limited.  Please come early and be patient as you leave the island.  Remember that individual fireworks are prohibited on the Isle of Palms.  Also, alcohol and litter are not permitted on the beach.

Isle of Palms Beach Run Saturday, July 18

Join us on Saturday, July 18 at 8:00 AM, for the annual Isle of Palms Beach Run.  The event will begin on the beach behind The Windjammer on Front Beach and includes a 4 mile run, a 4 mile walk and "fun runs" for youths.  Contact the Recreation Department at 843-886-8294 for more information or to register.
 
City Council Highlights 

At its meeting on June 23, 2009, City Council approved Change Orders to Mashburn Construction related to the construction of the Public Safety Building, which is scheduled for competition this summer.  A contract for disaster debris removal was awarded to Bamaco, Inc.  David Cohen was appointed to the Planning Commission.  Council passed second reading of Ordinance 2009-10, which creates a swimming zone and associated regulations.  Council also passed first reading of Ordinance 2009-11, which amends the beach debris ordinance to allow already established volleyball nets.  Finally, an agreement with the Dewees Homeowner's Association regarding an encroachment at the Marina and the Fiscal Year 2010 CARTA budget were approved.  The City Code as well as approved agendas and minutes are available on the City's website.
