Citadel Cadets Tour Public Safety Building Construction Site
A group of Citadel Cadets studying engineering were led on a tour by Fire Chief Ann Graham of the new Public Safety Building, expected to be completed in Summer 2009.

As summer approaches, practice good bicycle safety.  Wear a helmet, ride single file in the same direction as traffic, check tires and brakes, wear brightly colored clothing, check lights, slow down, look both ways for traffic and follow the laws of the road.
 
Holiday Trash Collection Schedule 
Rollout Cart
City offices will be closed on Monday, May 25 and no trash collection will occur.  Collection from Breach Inlet to 30th Avenue will occur on Tuesday, May 26.  Collection from 30th Avenue to Wild Dunes will occur on Wednesday, May 27.  Yard debris will not be collected.  Contact Public Works at 886-8956 for more information.

Mayor Pro Tempore Rice Receives Award from Girl Scouts 

The Girl Scouts of Eastern Carolina awarded Mayor Pro Tempore Carol Rice for her service to the City of Isle of Palms and the community at-large.  Ruth Metzger and Lisa Safford attended the April City Council meeting to thank Mayor Pro Tem Rice for being a role model for girls as a woman serving in political life in South Carolina.

Barbara Bergwerf was elected to the Isle of Palms City Council in a Special Municipal Election held May 12, 2009.  A ceremonial swearing-in of Council Member Bergwerf will take place at the City Council Meeting at 7:00PM on Tuesday, May 19.

Sand Sculpting Competition May 23

On Saturday, May 23 at 9:00am, the Isle of Palms Front Beach will host the annual Piccolo Spoleto Sand Sculpting Competition.  Categories include events for adults, families, young adults and children.  Participants can register in advance or the morning of the events and should be aware of the rules.  Contact the Rec at 843-886-8294 for more information.
