Fire Safety: Change Your Batteries

The Isle of Palms Fire Department reminds you to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.  Batteries should be changed twice a year.  An easy way to remember is to change your batteries twice a year when you change your clocks!
 
Construction at Marina
Marina Construction
Construction has begun on a new bulkhead at the Isle of Palms Marina.  The City appreciates your patience and continued patronage of the Marina businesses during the project.  The bulkhead is anticipated to be completed by spring.
 
Holiday Trash Collection Schedule

During the holidays, Monday and Tuesday trash collection will occur as scheduled. Yard debris will be collected on Wednesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 31.  However, yard debris will not be collected on Thursday, December 25 or Thursday, January 1.  Contact the Public Works Department at 886-8956 with any questions.
 
 
Mayor Pro Tem RiceMeet Mayor Pro Tempore Rice
On November 4, 2008, F. Michael Sottile, Mayor of the City of Isle of Palms from 2001-2008, won election to the South Carolina State House of Representatives.  The Board of Elections and Voter Registration of Charleston County has scheduled a special election for Tuesday, January 27, 2009 to fill the term for the Mayor's seat.  Council Member Carol Rice will serve as Mayor "Pro Tempore," a position appointed by Council which means "for the time being."  Mayor Pro Tempore Rice says, "I am pleased to serve the island citizens in this capacity."
  Fire Station 2 Wins Award!

Congratulations are in order! The City of Isle of Palms Fire Station 2, located at 44 Forty-first Avenue, has been awarded a Silver Award for station design from Fire Chief magazine.  The award recognized the achievement of building a cost-effective structure that is also within the City's building code height restriction, that uses flood-proofing capable of withstanding a category 3 hurricane, and that maintains the residential character of the neighborhood.  The City worked with architects with Cole+Russell as well as Trident Construction on the project.
 
Holiday Tree at Front BeachHoliday Tree Lighting 
The forecast calls for snow on Front Beach!  Come celebrate the season at the Holiday Tree Lighting from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 4.  Santa will be present as the City lights its spectacular 22-foot tree.  Enjoy live entertainment and specials from local businesses and restaurants.  Contact the Recreation Department at (843) 886-8294 for more information.
