Get Involved in Athletics 
Want a new athletics challenge? Try co-ed dodgeball for youths (ages 13-15) or adults (ages 16+). Those with fancy foot work will enjoy the 3-on-3 soccer tournament (ages 12+), the 3-on-3 basketball tournament (ages 12+) and friday night hoops. The Recreation Deparment also offers always popular athletics like youth soccer, men's fall softball, and youth basketball.
Holiday Events - Save The Dates
Holiday Tree at Front Beach
The holidays are just a few months away.  Mark your calendars for these fun, family events: Holiday Card Drawing Contest on Thursday, November 13th; Holiday Craft Workshop on Thursday, November 20th; Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Thursday, December 4th; A Christmas Carol on Saturday, December 6th; and Santa's Cookie Workshop on Thursday, December 11th.

Connector Run
On Saturday, October 4, 2008, runners and walkers will participate in the 16th Annual IOP Connector Run and Walk for the Child.  Proceeds benefit the local prevention of child abuse and other child-related programs. Click here to download a race application. 
 
 
Tennis BallsGame, Set, Match! New Tennis Classes at the Rec 
Love tennis? The Recreation Department is excited to offer a variety of new tennis classes and tournaments for both youths and adults.  The classes feature a "Come & Try" session that allows participants to try one class for free before signing up for the session.  Register by calling the Rec at 886-8294.
End of Season Community Party
Horton Hears a Who
Celebrate the end of a busy summer season by coming together with other island folks.  On Saturday, September 13, the Recreation Department will host an End of Season Community Party.  At 6:00 PM the a capella group Almost Recess will perform a concert.  At 7:30 PM the film Horton Hears and Who will be shown outdoors.  Concessions will be available, but please remember that no adult beverages are allowed on Recreation grounds and that state law prohibits golf carts on City streets after dark. 
 
 
Halloween KidsHalloween Movie and Carnival
Get into the spooky spirit at the Ghostly Tide Movie on the Beach and the Halloween Carnival.  The movie, Monster House (rated PG), will be shown Friday, October 10 at 7:00 PM at Front Beach.  Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, non-alcoholic beverages and refreshments.  State law prohibits golf carts on City streets after dark.  The Halloween Carnival is set for Friday, October 31 from 5:00-7:00PM at the Rec.  It is free for all ages.  Come enjoy costume contests, jump castles, an obstacle course, a booth featuring the application of temporary tattoos, a face painter, balloon artists, a fortune teller, halloween candy, prizes and more!   
 
Middle School DanceMiddle School Dances 
Teens in grades 6,7 or 8 can socialize and dance in a safe environment at the IOP Recreation Center's Middle School Dances, which are held the last Friday of each month from 7:00-10:00PM.  Residents can obtain an ID beginning on August 1 at the Recreation Center and then pay $5 at the door.  Non-residents will need to purchase tickets, which will go on sale two weeks before each dance.  Check the Recreation website for dates or call 886-8294.
